Help I'm about done

...with the whole nausea/vomiting thang. I am at my rope's end. I am trying to get past this but it's kicking my butt!

I got up this morning and didn't have to take a zofran for the first time in days. I was all excited. Then I took the cipro and the flagyl and off I went again. I ate first, just like the doc said to. No luck.

I took a four hour nap this afternoon and when I got up, here we go again. I have one more day of the flagyl, done with the cipro tonight, and then I have two days of diflucan and some sort of mouth swish that I have to do for a week to get rid of the thrush.

Anyone have any ideas what to do to combat the nausea? It goes on for hours, and I can feel it creeping up on me even now. I'm trying ginger ale and crackers but even that seems to set it off.

I just want to know it will go away and that I am not going to live on zofran. The doc has no more tricks in his bag for me, just says it will pass.

Signed:
Barfy

all I can think of is the BRAT diet:

Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Tea

But in hospitals, it is usually a liquid diet. I would think consumme, gatorade, tea, jello.

Was the doctor concerned about keeping you hydrated?

He was and he told me to drink at least 3 liters of liquids daily.
I'm still voiding out the IV solution, they packed 40 lbs of water weight on me infusing. I was third spacing it, so on top of everything else I am in the bathroom every 5 minutes now getting rid of it. I can't sit down on the toilet because I can't get up w/o help, so I hover. At this point I am hovering with the basin clutched in my paws at the same time!

He told me to eat normally, but I am eating what I can when I can. There's no normal these days. It's all small bites and bland, cause the water weight makes it hard to eat and even breathe! I have gotten rid of about 15 lbs of it so far, but it can't come off fast enough for me.

OMG! I am so sorry you are having such a rough go of it. The best advice I have for you would be to just live on the zofran for now. Take it even if you don't think you need it. Just keep taking it until you are done with all the meds and have gotten rid of that water weight. I am pretty sure you won't have to live on it forever, but keep taking it for now until you get over this hump.

My goodness, woman, it's only been a week, right? Give yourself some time to heal. I think nausea is like pain, if you let it take hold, it is harder to push back, so keep taking the Zofran prophylactically for awhile.

There is NO ginger in ginger ale...sorry.

You can find ginger tablets, or ginger root that would help greatly. If you have coke take some and put it in the FREEZER. dont put a closed can in there, or it WILL POP. Once its frozen, thaw out just enough to get the syrup from the drink. throw away the ice, and sip on the syrup.

Popcicles. lots of popcicles. sip on soups. ice chips. or you could suck on that coke ice. sips is much more important than drinks. hydration is key to staying ahead of the curve. Jello is awesome! even before it is molded. I love to sip warm jello water. use that ginger ale as the liquid to mix it. makes it tangy and taste better.

I hope you feel better soon. hang in there.

Thanks Holly! I was so hoping it was over when I didn't need the zofran this morning. I guess I should have taken it anyway. I've been doing that every morning and it does help. I only have a few more pills and I hate calling and asking for more meds, cause this doc is one of those guys who only writes the scrip for a few days at a time, and I get hit with a full copay regardless of how many pills I get!

I am guessing a discussion is in order about costs and amounts. I am also out of pain meds after tonight and I need more. I don't want to have the discussion about too many pain meds. I don't think I am a seeker. I didn't use much of the stuff they had me hooked to when I was in the hospital and they commented on it, and I told them I just used the pump to keep me off the edge so I wouldn't be whining but would still remember that I did have to be careful of the incision, etc.

I'm calling tomorrow to fight, but tonight I am gonna lay here and be the weepy, puky, smelly girl that I am now.

The good thing? I get a shower tomorrow!!!!

Aarcyn! That whole BRAT diet thing just came back to haunt me with a vengeance! I was reading the posts to my man and he perked right up and said "How about bratwurst for supper??" with a huge smile on his face!!!

He's now cooking himself some bratwurst and I am leaving the main living area!!!

(I get no sympathy from the peanut gallery!)

Thanks Dejibo!

I have homemade ginger ale and there is ginger root in it. It's powerful but it's good!
I'm on the whole ice chip thing, I have a crusher on my fridge and I have been living off the chips cause my mouth is so sore from the thrush. I swear I think that is what's making me so nauseated! My tongue is a giant furball and it's just gross feeling and tasting and I am brushing it TID but it hurts to even do that!

I know I only have one more day of the flagyl and then I can start fighting the yeastie beasties but I hafta tell you, I am ready to chuck the flagyl in the woodstove and just start it now!

I'd give you a hug RW but you'd probably puke all over me....... seriously, I feel so very sorry for you. I know what intractable nausea and vomiting can be like as I had a paralized bowel for 15 days after my hemicolectomy, and I was vomiting feces for the whole 15 days! Not a nice taste, let me tell you.

Did you think about asking mrsD in the Medication Forum? Maybe she might have an idea on how to settle your tummy down.

It's good to have you back with us, and puke or not..... I'm sending gentle cyber hugs. Feel better soon dear RW.
