Default What's with my ear?

Tell me if this is tinitis or what.

Woke up Tues with this. Every sound I make, I hear a kind of beep or clink in my right ear - almost like two teacups clinking together.

Never had anything like this. No pain, no fever. A little bit of vertigo, but not like my usual.

Weds, I can hear that sound sometimes when somebody else is talking too, if they're loud enough, or when the dogs bark, stuff like that.

Quite irritating, you can imagine.

Almost seems like something is inside my ear, stuck on one of those little bones. Could that be? Dh was here till yesterday, and my doc isn't in today. so if this keeps up I'll have to wait till Tues to call for an appt.

Lightbulb

This is the Eustachian tube closing and opening. It makes a crunking sound.

Pinch your nose and gently blow, and try to pop your ears. If they won't try taking some decongestants, and do it again in an hour. Once you pop that ear, turn your head in the opposite direction with that ear up, and let the fluid drain out down your throat. If you swallow it might close up again. So you may have to repop it. My ENT suggested doing this maneuver every hour until the congestion eases.

If you cannot pop your ear at all...the fluid cannot come out of the middle ear, and you may get an infection. But usually you can clear it yourself. You might need some Zyrtec if this is allergically triggered. Grasses right now are pollinating and very troublesome.

BD, I have Tinnitus for about 20 years. It never goes away for me. It can be a hissing, swooshing or ringing sound for me.

It has at times given me a real high pitched ring, that is definitely very annoying. That one doesn't last long, and goes back to the normal other sounds I get 24/7.

I play music or have a fan on, TV or something and I forget about it. It gets drowned out. When I am thinking about it, I hear it loud and clear.

I can adapt, and not concentrate on it, and it stops annoying me. I have normal tested hearing, but it does affect the way I hear distance first, and then people talking sound lower second. So I may say, "Pardon me, what did you say?"

Yet the Neuro-ENT specialist said nothing will help it, not even a hearing aid because I test okay.

Tinnitus
Do you hear a ringing, roaring, clicking or hissing sound in your ears? Do you hear this sound often or all the time? Does the sound bother you? If you answer is yes, you might have tinnitus.

Millions of people in the U.S. have tinnitus. People with severe tinnitus may have trouble hearing, working or even sleeping. Causes of tinnitus include hearing loss...

Thanks!

Mrs D, I'll try that.

Lady - I get a little ringing and I'll try to tone it out too. Nothing like yours tho. Mine is mild and only comes so-often, not a big prob for me - thank goodness, cuz this is maddening. Can't imagine life like that.

What Mrs. D said is so true. I can get a moment of loss of hearing in one ear or the other, like being under water. The N-ENT did say that the vacuum pressure in the sinuses are not equal at that time. He said to hold your nose and gently blow too, like Mrs. D said. It pops the ear open as the pressure builds up again and equalizes.

It changes the pressure and you can hear properly again. He said our bodies normally do this on it's own about 100 times a day. Ever yawn and hear your ear pop? Or when eating? That's normal.

We get so used to our bodies doing so many of these things for us, we don't even realize how truly amazing our bodies can be. Like a sneeze even is good.

Then of course, some things don't amaze us, just annoy the heck out of us.
