Does anyone else on Prednisone keep hurting their ribs? I've have about 3 or 4 rib injuries in the past year and they each take few weeks to heal. Starting to get very annoying.

Pred leads to osteoporosis...
Calcium and Vitamin D3 supplements are thus highly recommended. Bone densitometry is also advisable every 2 years. What precaution do you take? Maurice. |

Calcium, Vit D and, Fosimax when I remember. It doesn't feel like the bone though. My ribs keep moving anytime I push against something and it feels like torn cartridge. Could that be from Prednisone, too?

I'm not on Pred but Maurice is right about what it does to the bones. And cartilage. What has your doctor said about all this?
Did they take x-rays to determine what's going on? Some people have MG and a connective tissue disease. If you show any other signs of one, you might want to consult with a rheumatologist. Also, Pred is an anti-prostaglandin. You may want to think about adding good omega's (promoting good prostaglandins) into your diet, like olive oil, flax, etc. I hope you can figure it out and find some relief. Annie |

Have you had a fall where you injured your ribs in the past?
I have been on prednisone for about 2 1/2 years and as a result have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I recently started having tremendous pain in my lower back and after an exam by an orthopedic doctor found out that I have compression fractures in two vertebrae. I have not had an injury to my back recently but have had many falls over the last three years. All I can figure out is that area of my bones is the weakest area and that's the cause. I agree that it would be a good idea to have an x-ray of your ribs and have a bone scan to determine more information. Maybe the x-ray will reveal if you have a damaged cartridge issue. I sure hear how worried you are. My opinion is just that, an opinion. I would not take prednizone for all the tea in china. If my life was in jeopardy, such as swelling of lips, tounge, throat, then I would agree, I am alergic to bee stings. However, the drug in general is really hard on a person. I also had to take it for a trial study in the 80's for an auto immune responce that got out of hand. Please ask

Hi There,
I broke five ribs at one time, don't even remember what I was doing at the time. However, I was on prednisone at the time. Be careful not to do things like lifting etc. while on that drug. Take care ![]() |

Still doesn't sound right. I would imagine that when it pops that's got to hurt. That's like me saying my back only hurts when I move.
I still think it wouldn't hurt to have it looked at. Don't mean to preach about it but it sounds like that's just what I'm doing. Sorry. Becky Southern Bell ![]() |
