Default Hi Everybody!

My first post here. I am a 5 time back surgery veteran. My diagnosis is failed back surgery syndrome. Got a new doctor a couple months back and got off the heavy meds-avinza, norco, etc. Now on Lyrica. Not sure if taking 300 mg 2x daily is what I need. Doc wants me to increase to 3x daily. Anybody feel out of sorts? Gained weight? I gained 9 lbs, and that is enough to make me stop.

Hi there hon.

Allow me to welcome you to Neurotalks. If you need any help navigating these forums, just ask.

Lots of friendly folks here.

I have sciatica so I DO know a little bit about back pain.

Having a bout today because of the nutty weather.

But I make myself do my stretches, and they do help.

So hope you are having a not to bad pain day.

And again, Welcome to our little corner of the universe.

Hi Joycet and welcome to NeuroTalk! I've posted the link to the Spinal Disorders and Back Pain forum.

I don't take Lyrica but have heard that it causes weight gain.

Glad to have you here - just shout if you have any questions!

Hello joycet and Welcome to NeuroTalk. I cringe when I think of someone having 5 back surgeries. I have some major back problems, so can sympathize w/your pain.

I tried Lyrica, but it really make me feel loopy. Maybe I didn't give it enough time, but just didn't seem to mesh w/it. There are members here who take it w/good results though.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

Default Lyrica worth the weight gain risk?

I am s pain sufferer and recently lost 40lbs. It wasn't easy since I am basically confined to a recliner for most of my day. I am almost 8 years post ALIF two level spine surgery, arthritis of knees and hips, and failed back surgery syndrome. I credit my thyroid and diabetes meds fir getting my weight/metabolism in check.
For the most part I am taking Avinza 90mg and Nirco 15mgs daily. This helps me feel human but I am still limited in my mobilty. I am still in great pain. I recently went to a neurologist who prescribed Lyrica. She also recommended I lose weight. I informed her of my recent weight loss but admittedly I am still obese. I have nit filled the script because if the weight gain side effect.

What can any of you tell me about Lyrics? Is it effective? Weight gain? Vivid dreams or nightmares? What about Savella? It has way less percentage of weight gain as side effects. Just wondering how it is for pain relief.
