Hello,
My name is Sandra Williams and I am learning to live with a different me. I am also learning to live with a different son, and my husband and second son are probably wondering when life will be normal again. We all look normal, but we aren't. So many times, I hear, "just get over it. You don't have to let the accident define you." People mean well, but they don't understand. I am looking for information of prolonged post concussive syndrome. I am trying to navigate through this and give my family the tools we need to heal. I am encouraged by this site and hope to find helpful information here. |

Hey tyandclaysmom,
Love the boys' names ![]() And you are correct....people don't understand.......'just get over it' to me is very insensitive remark to make and I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I didn't have an accident but have small fiber neuropathy caused by diabetes/chemo treatments. My whole world changed in an instant. I'm only 9 months into my journey and I know it's a long road but I'll get there. We're all here for you and we care. Lots of folks on here that will have good suggestions that may help your family. Hi
I am the mother of a newly diagnosed 15 year old son, who has had a constant headache since Oct 30, 2013. I am trying to figure out how to post a thread of my own instead of just replying. A bit new to this type of support group. Can someone tell me how to post my own thread? Thanks. Tara |

When was your injury? Many PCS patients see their symptoms improve over time, although some can be life long. The lingering symptoms often require adjustments in lifestyle, and education to those around us is important. Tell us more about your symptoms and you will find lots of support and helpful advice. See you there: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. |

Hi Tara, If you go to the Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Concussion Syndrome Forum you will see the New Thread button towards the top left of the page as mrsD has mentioned. When you click on New Thread, you will get a page that includes Title and New Message. You could perhaps just use the same Title that you used on your post here "mom of newly diagnosed PCS teen" if you want to do that. Type your post and then hit Submit New Thread. Post again here if you're still having difficulty. Someone will help you. |
