Aloha,
I am a new member, just having been diagnosed with Small Fiber Neuopath following a skin biopsy. I am a 56 year old women, a registered nurse that has worked for 35 years as an ER nurse and a Recovery room Nurse for 22 years. I have been the picture of health most of my life. Very active, a traveler, and a workaholic. my husband and I have lived and worked in Kona, Hawaii for 22 years. I am now in north county (fallbrook) california living with my sister to access medical care. I have been here 3 1/2 months and just now after many dr. visits finally got a diagnosis. I was really hoping I would just get better on my own, but that didn't happen. My story started a little over 2 years ago when the heels of both feet became sore. It did stop work for any activity. It was always at work when i stand, which i do 80% of the time of a 10 hour shift. when i walked, sat or layed down, pain gone. Until last april 2013 when the pain started in the ball of my left foot, and also felt like i was walking on a "bubble" behind my left 2nd toe, which is very uncomfortable. I was told i had metatarsalgia and had many tests all normal. Long story short, in sept I became very nauseaous and fatigued along with the pain, could no longer work, lost 12 pounds (I was 5'8" and 130). By Nov 2013 I was so sick, We got on a plane and came to live with my Sister and her Husband. Here I am now with a Neurologist in escondido, Ca. I will be seeing him this week and want to know what questions to ask. I very much want to get completely better from this. Since being at my sisters, I'm no longer nauseous, put on 4 pounds and fatigue is slightly better. I do feel weak alot. I do very small errands, as my feet still hurt very badly. my arms and hands are also sore. My regular family practice dr here started me on gabapentin a few weeks ago and i take 200 three times a day. I have been taking supple, vit b12, d3, co q 10, vit e, alpha lipoic acid, fish oil. I dont know if its that or my diet(no sugar and decresed carbs) is what is helping me to feel a bit better. any info would be of alot of help!! MAHALO!! Debbie Thanks so much for listening to my story! |

Welcome to NT!
![]() I'm so sorry you are faced with PN. Very frustrating and boy do I know what you mean about 'finally' getting a diagnosis. It can seem as though you have to go through the whole 'process of elimination' before getting to this point. You are certainly at the right place for support and great information about PN. You've already found your way to the PN forum. I recall how it was when I first came to NT, scared, not knowing anything about this condition....I was amazed at how many others were in the same boat. I was surrounded with support and understanding. And once I read through the 'stickie' section and learned more about what I was facing, I didn't feel completely like a 'victim' anymore. There ARE ways to combat PN, such as MrsD's thread on B12 up in the information section, and so much more. You probably already have a list of Q's to ask your Dr by now! ![]() Let us know how your Dr visit goes (at the PN section). I'll be looking for you over there! Caring, Rae |

like you I am on Gabapentin1800 mg though and it's not helping me hope you're doing better with it. My Dr is going to put me on Lyrica as soon as I wean off the GABA and as you I take vitamins I take Shaklee vitamins the B12, D, Vitamin E, Alpha Lipoic acid, Cod Liver Oil, Protein Drink with strawberries and 1/2 banana added, magnesium, also take Epson Salt soaks. Also just started the Atkins diet because I want my daily sugar reading around 100. My AIC is 6.9 now just got the results. I am very much in pain like you are and am trying different things. Exercise is very important and I ride my reclining bike and use the tread mill For pain I was just prescribed Percocet to take at night did that was able to sleep (thank God) but am very tired during the day. Again welcome to the form I don't really have much to help you but to say Hi! ![]() |
