I had 400 more fava bean seeds soaked and ready and planted them
this morning and need to dig a place for yet more. The time
changed Saturday nite and I didn't notice when sunrise was Sunday (was
up early hoping for daylight around 6 AM and instead was closer 8 ..
...oh well ...could have slept in! We had rainagain today. For 2 months now , the soil has not had a chance to dry out completely here...so I am still just using my mattack to clear
small places to be able to plant favas. So thankful for this farm and
strength to still get things done. God is good.

Thanks Rick for the site. I happen to be an OLD Mother Earth News
Magazine enthusiast. When my daughter was in college..the school
library decided to sell the collection of "Mother" that had been donated and on
their shelves for many years. Not very many people ever looked at
them. I purchased most of the issues they had for 25 cents a piece.
Doesn't sound like much now, but then it was a big decision and I
browsed each one quickly before deciding which ones to take. I had to
struggle to even buy the college books for my daughter and pretty much
lived on beans and tomatoes from the garden. But, we made it! She
became Valedictorian of her class after homeschooling from 5th grade
on...it was worth it all.
My library is open anytime if you want to read Old Mother Earth News magazines!

Hi Aunt Bean, I just posted about hubby. Sorry I am not good at getting around here, and that I haven't been on since dec. I am kept real busy caring for hubby God has been providing me abundance of strength to do so. Imwill post back soon on how things are going, Praise God I made the decision to get him off those meds, the horrible side effects no more to deal with. I could not get the book you mentioned but did find another. Thank you Aunt Bean for the information. I have hubby on added nutritional support with supplements that our new family dr. Suggested after testing him for questionable being deficient.
Sincerely, Patti

Just got in from picking fava flowers in the greenhouse. My 3 x 6 experimental patch that I planted the end of August to see what it might do is still growing . There are no pollinators in the greenhouse so the flowers will make no beans. I took openned and un-openned flowers, enough to fill a large size Smuckers Natural peanut butter jar. They don't need to be dried...so it is the easiest tincture that I make now. Add Brandy to almost the top of the flowers (they shrink some and will be covered in a day) if not covered after a day of shaking...add alittle more brandy. Shake for a month and strain (there is hardly any sediment or waste with this tincture either and it is a different color...kind of a rosey tint to it) Don't know the l-dopa content ...still no researcher has come forth to test things for me. But this is an easy one to grow plants for and make....and there are no aphids on the flowers!!!!!!! Have a great day you-all.

Aunt Bean - thought you might enjoy these photos - my wife works at an elementary school here in the bay area and they have a small farm out back - where they have planted these fava beans late last year and look at them now! I think they're growing them to plough back as "fertilizer"

Good news, we've had lots of record breaking warm weather, bad news, we need more rain!

Thanks for the note on school favas...yes , they are an great cover crop to build soil...along with their other wonderful properties for helping PD. Wish I could show you all pictures......Pegleg put in a fava picture she took for me as my avatar (didn't even have a camera back then) Now I have a camera , and a basic cell phone for emergencies...
Pretty good for someone who lived without electricity by choice for a while and carried water from a spring. I have been told that I should have been born 400 years ago....maybe so. Have opportunity to go dig up blueberry shoots this week....they are a fruit that we could never get enough of...so I hope they will grow well. You can all come for blueberry pancakes someday ! Have a great day.

Well, we got up a steep and very curvy mountain road and found the place with the blueberry bushes. They had already dug some for me and we got the home and planted. The bushes they had were quite tall and are supposed to bear real good berries ...should take about three years before they are big enough to start producing.
QUESTION: Anyone ever heard of neuro-feedback? (bio-feedback) Was looking into neuroscience for balancing neurotransmitters and they gave a practitioner near us....but he doesn't work with them, but does this other therapy. It is explained under
www.BrainCoreTherapy.com Don't know if it is something that could help PD or not, but he said they would give a free evaluation....may check it out.

Default Question about fava bean sprouts

Hi Aunt Bean,

I am wondering about your fava bean sprouts that you make using this recipe:

http://www.favabeans.parkinsonsrecov...t-balls-recipe

You mention that you can freeze them right after you steam them. If I do that, then how do we eat them? I am trying to make these for my dad. If I freeze them, does it thaw it out and eat them?

Also, when you make the fava sprout ball recipe with peanut butter etc. Are you just eating them cold out of the freezer?

Any info would be great.

Thanks!

You can freeze the sprouts and just eat them out of the freezer or make fava sprout balls. The peanut butter and pumpkin seeds are good for PD also (pumpkin seeds good for tremor)My friend eats about 7 or 8 balls a day. She either lets them thaw just slightly or pops them in her mouth frozen ( but she is normally too hot)..so it helps cool her down a bit too (like me in the summer with my homemade popcicles) This time of year..it is all I can do to keep warm enough.
My first favas that were planted outside are just trying to come out of the ground...always a great blessing to see. I have already tried digging one up to make sure they were ok under there (always too anxious, I guess)

Aunt Bean,

I'm having trouble finding a seed source for the Three Fold White fava bean seeds. I noticed that from Ken Allens' research that one had almost twice levadopa content of the Windsor - can you please tell me where you get your seeds this year? The one that has the crimson flower is pretty but does it produce?
and btw I'm thinking that the reason fava helps is because it can ferry the levadopa cross the BBB....I tried a place in Canada but heard that they have problems sending seeds thru the mail. Is there anyone in the US with the three fold white? Thanks!

I don't know about the name "three fold white" by my favas look like that and I ordered them from Jaffe Bros.----do NOT buy the 25lb bag like we did, that was a ton of seeds we could not possibly plant at one time and the mice got into them (they probably had a great time, though!)

They are pretty hardy and have white flowers with multiple folds. They make a lovely bean, which is what we eat, we haven't tried the tincture yet, but the bean definitely has a "lovey" feeling, in addition to moving smoother. I have no idea why or how this works, just know that on days we can eat a bowl of beans, INCLUDING THE PODS, we can cut the sinemet down quite a bit, as well as mirapex which we have tired to get off of many times. Just fyi.
