Default "Dying to Be Me" by Anita Moorjani (OT, kind of)

I am hesitant to share this book I am reading because I don't want anyone to think that if they just believed this or that more fervently, more sincerely, etc., they would heal. That is not what this book is about.

What this book is about, is her recovery from (rather suddenly, too, from stage 4 lymphatic cancer to no sign of cancer a week after her near death experience) and discovery of, an awareness that has apparently healed her of a cancer that came as close to ending her life as you can get. I don't want to spoil the book in case anyone wants to read it, but I mention it because her personality seems to fit so many of those with PD:

people pleasers, not wanting to disappoint others, putting others first (ahead of yourself usually, to your detriment), perfectionists, you all know too well!

So many histories that have been shared here on this forum resemble that of this author. While you may not buy her belief of why she got cancer, I can't help but think we could all benefit from her realization that without our love of self, we are not whole, and are more prone to illness.

Again, I don't want to spoil the book in case anyone wants to read it. I'd like to hear what others think about this book, for those that read it.

Do not read the following if you plan on reading the book, it will spoil it!

First, the author is Indian and she did try all sorts of therapies for her cancer, naturopath, Aryuvedia, etc., ending up with chemo too...she got so weak she was in a wheelchair and on oxygen, with her family taking care of her, it was bleak. Nothing in this world was helping her, and nothing in this world helped her, it was a change in her reality, for lack of a better word, that shifted her energy, as she says, and made her whole, without cancer. It is NOT positive thinking, there is a huge difference.

When she was rushed to the hospital and her family was told her organs were shutting down (she was, medically, dying, or in the process of doing so), she suddenly realized she had no pain, was free, could go anywhere, do anything, all at once, there was no time or space that she was not in. She was surrounded by unconditional love everywhere from everyone, even by those that had hurt her in her past. It is very hard to explain in words because our words are so limiting, but the best I can do is say that she believes we are all of one universal energy, love for for some, chi for others, the word is irrelevant really. What she realized while in this state is that she was perfect just as she is, she did not need to change to please anyone or do anything to make anyone else like her. She was, as she says, magnificent, and realized that self-love is critical to tapping into this universal energy and going from a state of "doing" to a state of "being", or awareness. She let go of all worry, fear, disappointment in herself, etc.

I should mention that she did NOT want to come back to life on this earth-she said it was just too peaceful, perfect, and wonderful in that other place. But somehow she knew she would be healed if she came back, and that she had a purpose to come back to, although she did not know what it was at the time. She knew only that she had one, and that she need do nothing to learn what it was other than to let life unfold.

She firmly believes she got cancer because of stress caused by not loving herself as described above and, once she got cancer, stayed sick because of this plus her morbid fear of cancer. We all know people who love themselves a little toooooo much, and that's not healthy either, because those folks usually hurt others. Her love, her state of being, is not like that.

I haven't finished the book but where I am right now, she is talking about living life in the "doing" state versus "being" state. I think this is like those who medidate to clear their heads: the doing state requires us to plan and plot our time, in order to accomplish various tasks....pay bills, get groceries, etc., and we lose awareness of our wolrd. But in the afterlife, for those that believe in that, you are only in the aware state, and you just "are". It seems like those who medidate are able to tap into that "being" state, and that is why it brings peace, tranquility, calm. I have read so many places that tai chi helps PD, perhaps this has something to do with it.

I'm not commenting on any spiritual aspect of this, what lies ahead or not for us humans, we all have our own beliefs. But I do think most of us could use a little more love of self, realizing that even with whatever flaws we feel we may have, we are still perfect, completely.

What better day to realize how wonderful you are than today, and it's Thanksgiving, to boot!

Thank you Lurking... I had this book on my "to read" list, the problem is -it's a mental list and I keep forgetting! I'm going to order it too. I had been listening to a Wayne Dyer audiobook and he mentioned her. Her book sounds very inspiring.

Laura,

Here is another book you might find interesting called " A Proposed Spiritual Axis of the Bodymind. How the Reticular Activating System (RAS), Vagus Nerve and the Alta major Chakra Axis may be the Nexus of Bodymind/Spirit Consciousness.

After all of these posts I think it is time for me to drive everyone half crazy with my comments lol once again.

This is a true story that I have told on both forums braintalk and neurotalk.

I was in hard place in my life once where I could see no light that would put things in place for me or my kids. They were in Toronto with my mother and I had no use for her at any time so I wanted to get them to where I was as doon as possible. In the meantime I had taken up with a man who wanted to get married but he would have made the worlds worst father so this was about to end. Well to make a long story shorter I was in bed one night and had just gotten there and laid down. I was not asleep when i felt myself rising up into the air. I was full length floating up and seemed to be going into a fog or somethilng. I was surrounded by it.

Overwhelming peace and lighness of body weight that felt like i had only my thoughts and nothing else. I felt so free and unbellievingly happy and at peace for what seemed like many many minutes. Then it struck me like the most horendous feeling of unhappiness, instantaneously I knew I had to go and was going back. I looked around the room and saw my companion asleep and everything in the room in stark clarity. I was drifting down and so unhappy that it was happening, i felt the bed below my cack and i lay there with no feeling in my body for quite awhile till slowly I felt feeling coming back. No place in particular just all over.

I lay there and slowly got up and went to the kitchen and just sat and sat for hours trying to understand what had happened.

I had no illnesses at that time, My kids were fine where they were for the time. there was no animosity for the breakup coming. the salons were functioning as good as I hoped they would. Everthing was fine.

But since that time I have changed dramatically so. I don't worry about small things and i can take people as they are and not need to change them even my kids and grandchildren. I have some good and some not so good in each generation. Myself I am not driven by money or ambition or many of the usual things that people relate to.

So that being said I leave it alone as today I still have that feeling with me and relive it a lot, I don't have any answers but since that time I don't need any.

Why I don't know
