Last I heard, Obama is a Christian, a member of the United Church of Christ.

Govt ran health care is a very scary to me. Yes the insurance companies are out of control, and this health care plan is only making what's out there worse...they want to get what they can while they can, and we are the ones getting hurt by it all. If govt ran health care is such a wonderful thing, why do other countries come here when they need medical care...because they can't get it in their own countries. This goes into effect, and we will have even fewer good doctors to choose from, and they will not accept insurance...then what will we do? This will put the small offices out of business. Do we really all want to be on medicaid, cause thats what it will become? How about this business of throwing us in jail if we can't pay?

Look at the Cash for Junkers program..did it work? NO! Many dealers went out of busienss because they never got paid. Sure, people got new cars, but how many actually bought American made cars, which should of been a requirement for this program, and yes, American made cars are just as good as foreign cars. Yes, I drive American, always have. This program should of supported our country.

Bailing out the banks, and all we did was give them vacations and huge bonuses. Nothing is thought out, nothing is truly debated. We should be allowed to vote on what we want, not told what we are getting.

I find it all very destressing.

...all in the eye of the beholder, ......

Yup,
Seems that way - but you seem to be highly opinionated
- and are entitled to it, in our society.
Seems as if you could be a Republican, but I may be wrong.
Others have just as highly motivated, opposing, points of view.

This really isn't the place for heated political debates, though
& this thread has strayed waayy off topic.
I wouldn't be surprised if the mods closed it, the way its going.

We have a representative democracy.

We don't vote on most issues, except locally. Congress votes for us on most issues or it would require that we spend our lives reading legislation. Hundred of bills are passed every year, and most people have no concept of what is passed or fails to pass.

We vote for representatives and they vote.

We don't have a national religion.

Freedom of religion is the basic tenant of this land.

Christians come in all flavors, from fundamentalist to cafeteria.

We have Muslims, Jews, Gnostics, Buddhists, Hindus, and everything in between and those who don't feel they need a faith to guide their behavior. People of all faiths have fought in this country's conflicts, honorably.

Every one is entitled to their own religious beliefs or lack thereof.

THAT will not change as long as it is OUR America. When we declare a national religion, we are no longer the America that was founded by Jefferson, Adams and Washington.

My folks have been here since the early 1600s, and founded Rhode Island with Roger Williams. They were proponents of religious freedom, and fair dealings with the Indigenous peoples.

Tolerance is a high order concept.

You know Bob, censorship is interesting. Kinda like what China does. (But then I am convinced I was burned at the stake in a former life.)

There are facts, and then there are attacks.

If we stick to the facts, I don't know what there is to censure.

How about that movie Avatar? It isn't just for kids. It's Complicated was good too.....Alex Baldwin was hysterical, the ultimate jerk.

I am very proud to say I am a Conservative, thanks. Nothing heated here.

Exactly..we aren't arguing, just stating how we feel...anyone not interested, need not read.

Avatar seems to be a "really liked it" or I "totally hated it" type of movie. One person at work loved it, another said it has too many underlying, objectionable messages. I don't have an opinion, I never pay to see movies, I wait for them to come to cable. It's not the type of movie I would watch, as a rule...my daughter didn't like it...but she likes horror movies best, which I will not watch with her.:eek:I have enough bad dreams without assistance.:p

seems it may be time to remind everyone that NT has guidelines that limit political discussion from becoming partisan, and we also request that religious posts be limited to offering support in prayer and inspiration, rather than pitting one religion against another.

This thread is about climate, not politics or religion and so I am requesting it return on topic or we will have no choice but to close it.
I will be going back over some of the posts and editing any that do not comply with the guidelines

and just an FYI, the guidelines are not "censorship" but rather have been put in place to show respect for the diversity of our community.

thanks to everyone for your co-operation

here are the guidelines
