Whether one "believes" in global warming or not--and I find it hard to swallow the idea that humans are not having SOME influence on their surroundings, given the sheer amount of activity--it's really dubtful that the planet can sustain 10 billion people at the level that all of them will want. And competition for resources leads to conflict . . .

It's almost a no-win. If one assumes that we will continue to innovate sufficiently to provide larger numbers of people with a middle class Western lifestyle, the ultimate problem becomes pollution. If we can't, the ultimate problem becomes deprivation.

I, too, have given up many posessions over the years, both for abstrct ideological reasons and because with illness, a young son, etc., I just have no time for them. I still do have a lot of the trappings of Western middle-class lifestyle--after all, I'm posting this by computer--but the idea of having more than one car, or a second vacation home, or even a large private home with a big lawn I'd have to waste resources on due to some ridiculuous community standard involving property values, is anathema to me.

There's a lot of research out there now that seems to indicate that the happiest people are not those with the most things, but the most human connections. I'd bet on that.

I agree, we do have influence on our surroundings, but, I do not believe in global warming. I believe we are polluting our world, no question about it, I believe the rain forest needs to be left alone, no question..I also believe no one should eat wheat, but how many agree with me? I believe we need to find a way to fix nerves without pumping us full of meds, same for diabetes, MS, MD, Parkinsons...the list goes on and on.

And today, I will go out in the sun and enjoy for a bit. A heatwave of 42 here today, can't wait!!!

Oh, MrsD. will love this....my dog got put on fatty acids. They charged me 16$ for veterinary fish oil basically....can't my dog just have the same dose of regular fish oil, the human kind?? This dog is my baby girl....so, I don't want to give her junk. They put her on an antibiotic, benadryl and fatty acids. Skin issues.

Gosh, my dog has antibiotics and people in Haiti dont. As glad as I am that my dog has medicine, this is a real distribution problem. I have enough unused pain meds and other stuff that would take care of a lot of Haitians right now...instead, it is going to go back to the pharmacy to be destroyed. Such a shame. But it is our system.

I am sitting here with 200 face masks, N95s from the pandemic....I wonder if there will be need for them over the next decade. Hmm. Did I say I was not an armagedonist, lol..well, actually, I had them in case I got called out to do mass catastrophe work....they have a list and I am on it....hoping never to be called, lest I have to say no...'I'm too sick.' Gosh I would feel like a weenie in that circumstance. I think my rescue ranger days are long over. Its been interesting. Time to pass the torch.

Anyway, they don't have a kiss icon, or you'd get one of those Glenn.:o

I find it fitting how climate change deniers speak in terms of not "believing" in it. Please count me in the science-based community rather than the faith-based one on this.

And climate change is a theory the same way the theory of gravity is...anyone want to jump off a cliff and see how that works out?

Maybe there is something to be said for the paleolithic diet. I don't think I could adhere to it, but, it is in a lot of ways logical, no?? I would think to be healthy in current times, your meat would have to be free range, or organic, $$$. Even that does not solve the prion issue.

It is an interesting concept to ponder, tho.

I have way too much time to think lately. It happens when you can't move much.

What if you see red, and I see green but we call it red? Is it red? I mean it is all personal perspective. If I see a red lite as green, but I have been told it is red, I stop. If I see green as blue, but was told it is green, well, then I go. I mean it works. Color can not be described unless you can see. You must have vision to comprehend color.

Sorry, I was just contemplating the color wheel, and other things in life.

you know i have always wondered about that color thing ever since i was very young. is the green im seeing the same as what others are seeing? with all the variations on everything else including on how differently everything affects us, i would say chances are pretty good that we do not all see exactly the same color and im not talking about people who are colorblind.
