I am truly sorry... It must be miserable... Please feel better,

casts scare me i admit it. i cant even imagine having a cast on my feet. i broke my ankles a number of times and numerous toes but nothing that called for a hard cast. everytime something happens i sweat it until i hear i dont need a hard cast.

Here is a good story...

About 15 years ago, my husband went to pick up a keg of beer for a party and it fell on his finger. He came out of the cooler in the liquor store, keg in hand, his face as white as his tee shirt and told me... "let's leave" with a look of doom on his face. There was also a small smudge of blood on his white tee shirt. He very quietly paid for the keg and we left the store.

Well, in the parking lot he showed me his index finger and said "I think I broke it, the keg fell on it". It looked terrible and I told him we needed to go to ER and get an X-Ray. He said, being his stubborn self, "No, lets just go home and I'll take some aspirin and have a beer". By the time we got home, I had to rush him to ER because the pain was so bad.

He had a spiral fracture of the finger and had to have a pin inserted to hold the bone together. The pin came out through the tip of the finger with a little cap on the end. He got white the first time he had to clean and dress it. I tried to help but he kept shushing me away. Inwardly, I thought it was funny, although I did feel sorry for him.

Well, the pin came out six weeks later and all was fine. He told the people at work that he slammed it in the car door... too embarrassed to tell them the truth. I think it was a pretty sobering experience for him...

Just a little story about my stubborn hubby to make you smile. Terrible to laugh about it, but it was a long time ago. I hope I succeeded in giving you a smile.

When I was about 15, I was very athletic and somehow had injured my ankle so that it would dislocate when I was walking. I had a number of casts and then had to have tendon/ligament surgery. After I had the surgery and cast number 5 removed, I injured it again and had to have yet another cast. Six in total. It was just miserable... I do understand.

Default OOOH...ages ago? Had a cast on...

Tho for only 10 days [?] Gotta say, that leg never ITCHED like it did then and never again... Once off? All I did was go into the shower and let it RINSE until there was no more hot water! Pens, chopsticks, skewers, NOTHING could get under that cast to where it itched! It was a 'walking cast'-below the knee to the toes-Those toes did get pretty grubby that way tho....
Now, w/neuropathy, itches are somehow different...no better way to explain it other than different. More persistant, strange, burning, zapping whatever.
The ONE GOOD THING ABOUT CASTS? THEY COME OFF!!! Remember that and enjoy that moment when AIR hits that formerly confined skin.
Enjoy that cast coming off? Bathe it specially and slather on softeners... Not long now... HUGS! - 's!!!!!!!! - j

Why not reward yourself with a nice pedicure when the cast comes off. Just think of warm water bubbling in the foot bath, sudsy water, person is massaging your feet and legs (at least here in Brooklyn, they do your legs up to the knee) and they wash, and massage and it feels wonderful.

There is a pedicure place that adds crystals and wraps the feet in saran wrap.

Let me tell you. THAT IS LUXURY

So tell yourself.

"THE DAY THIS THING COME OFF, I'M GETTING A FANCY PEDICURE!!!"

Actually this cast is on my hand.....I had one on my leg in 2002 (that one ended poorly with having it removed due to severe pain, due to???>>>which was neuropathy, now that I know I have neuropathy.

Having a cast on when you have neuropathy is not a good feeling.

I am making a paper chain, which is how I deal with waiting....paper chain. I have several paper chains going.

I see the renal specialist in 10 days....THAT is my bigger issue right now, and I feel freaking miserable.
