Hi
Has anyone tried methylcobalamin. My district nurse found it and while it seems widely available for the US in the UK I have not heard of it. I get a B12 injection every 8 weeks. It is made up of hydrocobalamin which apparently has to convert into methylcobalamin so therefore not quite so effective. Has anyone on this site ever tried this? Did it help? Many thanks Theresa Esther. |

Methylcobalamin is the preferred choice to take today for B12 supplementation. It is inexpensive and available orally.
Many people on this forum take it, including me. Here is a thread about it: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread85103.html Easily available online for pennies a day. Less common in local stores still. iherb.com, vitacost.com and Puritan's Pride have it.

I take it orally, sub-lingual, 1000-2000 mcgs/day.

Hello,
Had extensive blood work done in May and the B-12 reading was 1500, I use Jarrow 5000 mcg, usually 3 times a week. I have used the supplements suggested on this forum over 3 years, however I don' t believe they are of any use. I have CIDP and since '04 I am now confined to bed and wheel chair, my legs now longer will support me. |

Methylcobalamin only helps those who are low in it, or deficient.
Some neurological conditions do seem to improve with it in people who are in normal ranges, but not all respond that way. The way I understand this thread, the original poster is already getting treatment from a doctor, with injectable B12. So switching to an oral form may be more efficient and successful for her.
