I sent you a PM with other links.
The problem here is that the absorption of CoQ-10 has always been a problem. All the sites on this topic say different things. For example the Q-gel site says, Quote:
Linus Pauling's site says 10% of oil soluble may be absorbed. Which is correct? This is because the studies themselves are all over the place. So it becomes very difficult to make a final recommendation, or chose a product. I think Dr. Sahelian is conservative, and he wants people to buy HIS products. When doctors go online, they tend to be very careful...for liability reasons. I tend to not recommend CoQ-10 except for people with Statin therapy and for the PDers I recommend their forum, because some of them post about their treatment with high dose. Dr. Sahelian's site did quote the very high doses used in studies. So the whole topic of coQ-10 is muddled IMO. I do see when looking on Epic4Health, that their product Q-gel has come way down in price. It used to be very expensive. So now their prices are competitive with the oil soluble form (in soybean oil). So staying with Q-gel may be the answer. The 30mg should be enough for most people. I wouldn't go above 100mg of that Q-gel form. I saw one comment yesterday somewhere, that a PDer was using 600mg of the Q-gel. Sorry I lost track and can't find it now, I was searching quite a bit yesterday and didn't save it. I get the impression that the really high doses get into the brain better. My dose of 300mg a day, oil base, is not getting to MY brain --I don't feel any different. R-lipoic and SAMe however will make me hyper and I have to watch doses on both of those these days.

So, overall, do you think this a supplement worth taking? I was DXed with a movement disorder many years ago (not PD) and now believe that I may have some mito damage, in addition to nerve damage, from treatment related to it. I thought the CoQ10 and PQQ might help, but now I'm not so sure.

The CoQ-10 may help. You may want to take the new
Q-gel form. That way you won't need the higher doses. Consider the ribose too. It is on the acupuncture thread on the first page here. It really gives me more stamina and less muscle pain. I have alot of muscle aches and pains in the winter. ![]()

With the new Q-gel, you don't need the high doses.
Start at 30mg a day which is the lowest they make. You can increase to 60 in a month if you see no improvement. Here is their dosage suggestions: http://www.epic4health.com/dosnotqgelco.html It appears that the price has come down dramatically from what it was. The ribose comes in 240gram tubs powder. I'd start at 5 grams a day for a week, and see how you feel. You can raise to 10grams slowly over a month if you need it that high. I get good results with 7.5 grams a day. You can take it any time, just mix in water...it is mildly sweet. I take mine at night because it seems to help me sleep. This may be slow for you at first. It took a month for me when I started it. Then summer came and I thought I didn't need it anymore, so I stopped it. Now this Feb has been a painful month, so I started again, and it was fast this time. Maybe I am primed for it now? Don't know. If you have elevations in blood sugar, this may reduce them. So test and see. If you use Freestyle monitor it may register false highs. I use One Touch and it has a different system not affected by other sugars than glucose like the Freestyle ones.(Abbott) I bought the first tub from iherb.com Doctor's Best. When I saw it worked well, I went to Puritan's for the others. It works out less expensive at Puritan's for buying more than one.

I take Dribose twice a day for CFS.
I take CoQ10 twice a day also. My doctor likes the Designs for Health brand on that. I follow his advice on all brands. |

Quote:
I spoke with my ND today about CoQ10 because my test result showed I was low. I got a 'prescription' to eat red meat (from a naturopath!) because it is most concentrated natural resource with CoQ10. She said to be careful in looking for a good butcher where the livestock aren't fed the bad hormones. I had backed away from red meat because of the hormone issues in the news. Little did I know I was depleting myself of CoQ10, and putting my heart in jeopardy. Some meat has more CoQ10 than others, so consider that, too. I had been taking supplements only, no meat, but absorption seemed weak. I suspect absorption from food will be better than supplements. I asked her when I should get retested. She suggested six months. I asked the cost of the isolated CoQ10 test (because mine was in a package test), and she said $70. Considering how important CoQ10 is in many respects (heart, liver, etc.), I don't think that's a lot. I'd recommend the CoQ10 test to everyone. It'll help us avoid taking too little meat/supplements, and make sure it doesn't get too high.
