I don't see how Benadryl can cause PN.

But as we age, and become older, Benadryl may have to be
lowered in dose, due to the anticholinergic effects it has.

Men with prostate issues have to be very careful with it therefore.

Benadryl can cause blurred vision and dry mouth. So anyone with Sjogren's would not be a candidate for it.

I use Benadryl myself... and my doctor lately has been discouraging this because of my age. So now I only take 25mg at bedtime (during allergy season). Sometimes I rotate with 1/2 Zyrtec. Seems I get "used to" the Benadryl and it stops working.
