Autonomic neuropathy can be caused by several different conditions, including diabetes and autoimmune disease. It can effect heart rate, BP, temperature control, GI function/motility, balance, endocrine function, etc.
It can come in waves in response to trauma, surgery, infection, etc. If the cause is know, then treatment would be to based on that condition...like diabetes. Otherwise, treatment is supportive to help control symptoms of systems effected. There are many options for effective heart rate and BP control. Tilt table is usual test for POTS. Sensory/motor involvement is common, but it depends on the underlining cause. Quote:
