My most distrssing efffect of PN is sleep depravation. I have tried every concievable meds for gtting to sleep and staying asleep to no avail. Seldom do i hear members here having that problem so seviere. Any thoughts? |

I always take a 150 mg. benfotiamine and a 200 mg. L-theanine before I go to bed to help me relax and sleep well. It seems to do the trick.

I really don't have any sleep problems any more. I don't eat night shade vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, or smoke tobacco) and I also rub some epsom lotion on the inside of my arms before turning off the light. I've had pn since 1999 so I do know all about sleepless nights. I think the whole routine of eliminating certain foods, using the benfotiamine and L-theamine, as well as the epsom lotion is working for me.

I have the same ritual, think we should rename it the Mrs D sleep therapy ritual. I also add alkaseltzer when the pain is very bad.(also Mrs Ds recommendation )
There were years when I survived on a few hours sleep per night.

I am going to strongly recommend against long term use of the Z drugs such as ambien and it cousins. Benzodiazepines are also a problem. If you take these drugs and decide to go off of them, it is hell to pay. Been there, done that.
I use Pramipexole for the restless leg, which is now known as Willis-Ekbom disease. Opiates work for this too, but, then again there is the physical dependence issue and they have a short, but pretty miserable withdrawal....been there, done that too. More than once, which says something about my capacity to learn from experience. I have arrived at the conclusion that treatment is worse than the disease. I just leave my body be. It seems to prefer that.
