Default How often for Epsom Salt bath?

I did two foot soaks last week, which helped incredibly. I'm really not much of a soaker and so I don't think about it often. Yesterday I started twitching again, got home and did another long soak. How often does one need to do the bath in order to keep the twitches away? Every couple days? Once a week? I don't want to start twitching to tell myself to do this.

Or would it seem more logical to take a supplement? Is there a brand that's better than others?

I was actually shaking at work yesterday. It makes it hard to concentrate. I think I need something fast acting. Even my head/neck twitches sometimes. Thankfully I don't see clients hardly at all, but I can't imagine being in a meeting with my head twitching or my legs bouncing around. That would send the wrong signal.

Thanks again Mrs. D for reminding me about the need for magnesium.

I think you will need a supplement.

The easiest to use with the least side effects is SlowMag.
This is available at WalMart even (the lowest price), for about
$10.

Two of those a day, would be a good start.. (divided doses).
This is about 1/2 the RDA.

You can still soak while taking the SlowMag.

Not all mag supplements work well. Avoid magnesium oxide products.

There is a powder that dissolves quickly in warm water and
delivers the mag quickly...with less laxative effects...
http://www.iherb.com/Pure-Essence-Io...-oz-342-g/3197

There is also a citrate form:
http://www.iherb.com/Natural-Vitalit...-oz-454-g/7863
Some people like this one.

Alot depends on YOU...some people get loose stools with magnesium liquids and supplements.

My magnesium thread goes into foods, and topicals etc:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1138.html

I am glad it is working for you. It is amazing how low magnesium levels get in Americans!

Awesome! I'll head over to the dreaded WM and pick that up. Can it be taken at any time? No need for empty/full stomach? They sell the fizzy one at the Vitamin Shoppe, which there is one down the street. I'm wondering if that acts faster than the pills? I could do a fizzy raspberry lemonade thing.

And I'll read your thread. It's just so long, it'll take some time.

The Ionic fizz is fast. I've used it. I keep it around for "emergencies" ...but since I started the topical, I haven't needed it. I am very sensitive to the laxative effects of magnesium orally.
I purchased mine at Whole Foods. It is very good IMO.

The SlowMag you can take with food. WalMart will order it for you if they don't have it out front. They have a generic behind the pharmacy counter in some stores, Mag64. But since the Brand name is almost the same price, there, I only mention the brand, these days.

I also eat beans at least twice a week and nuts almost every day.

Still soak, because your circulation in the feet may be poor, and the mag orally may not get thru to your feet very well. Soaking provides that local effect therefore.

Hi Mrs. D. I don't take magnesium and I am thinking about including it in my supplements. I take COQ10, R Lipoic Acid, L-Carnitine and B12. Is it Ok to take some magnesium also. I don't know if these supplements are already helping but my fasciulations have decreased.
Can a person have to high of a magnesium level through supplement use or is it more like B12? I really don't know why I have not begun taking it. I have a extreme family history of heart disease so I think I should be taking it for that reason. If you don't mind, what type do you use?
As always thanks for everything!

You can have too much. This is why supplements sometimes suggest starting at 1/2 the RDA. The assumption is that you
are eating some, but not enough. If you were really really low your heart would go into arrhythmia (some people die at this point). People on strong diuretics sometimes end up in the ER with this emergency.

So with SlowMag, that would be 2 tablets a day would be about 1/2 the RDA.

Then there is the elemental issue...as some supplements are not clearly labeled. 400mg of elemental is different than 400mg of chelate total. So when people look at dosing, they may think they are getting more than they actually do.

This is an example of a properly labeled mag product:
http://www.swansonvitamins.com/docto...esium-240-tabs

Things are changing with labeling with time, so more companies put the elemental on them now.

RDA for adults is 350-400mg elemental for magnesium.

For people with normal functioning kidneys, excess is eliminated. Massive doses orally really cause diarrhea, and not much poisoning happens this way. But rectally, in enema form, it can happen and it does happen with babies and elderly.
Fleets PhosPhoSoda was taken off the market for X-ray preps because of toxicity to the elderly or kidney impaired. But it was used for decades!
