Default Mrs D :)

It seems like I MIGHT be getting a UTI. I take Dmannose and Cranberry twice a day every day, to keep this from happening but it feels like it might be...

So I know I can't use Floriquinalones and I am sensitive to penicillin and sulfa. I have usually done OK with Duricef. Can you name any more I can talk to the doctor about in case I have to go? I just think a couple of other ideas would be handy.

The one that starts with Metra(?) is not good for nerves I believe. I really need to get a list on my fridge or someplace. SO few I can use. No mycins for sure since they can be ototoxic. I am glad there is Duricef. My hands itch and hurt after a while with it now sadly though.

We've had this convo before I believe. Most of the urinary antibiotics are in the PN category.

There is methenamine --but it is controversial...since it is converted to formaldehyde in acidic urine.... and this is carcinogenic. However, it has been on the market for over 30 yrs.
Mandelamine and Urex are two names of it.

I have no personal experience with it.

Do you have your urine cultured to see if it is really infected?

Hi Mrs D,

Is cephalosporin/cefalex in in the PN category? Sorry if I did not spell them correctly.

Yes, we talked about it, I can't find my notes I took.

Yes, I always get the urine tested at the doctor or Urologist. It has been about a year or more since I had an infection. I feel fine tonight so it looks like I am ok.

The cephalosporins do not appear on PN risk lists (yet).

Using the search function here and keyword "duricef" I found these posts:
