Default Nutrition to heal nerves

Hi,

I have peripheral autonomic neuropathy which I want to heal;

The cause is ehlers danlos syndrome, probably an infection or inflammation has damaged them as eds does not directly attack nerves, no auto immune illnesses.

Can you help me compile a list of vitamins and nutrition which will put me in the best setting for repair?

So far i'm on a normal multi
fish oils
b12 methylcolbamine 1000ug

Not sure what else I need to add, mainly just want to reduce inflammation and promote healing.

NOTE: I need to use things that wont cause vasodilation and drop bp as autonomic bp control is a big issue.

My b12 blood test was 422ng/l could this be causing problems? either way ive added the supplement above.

Thanks.

There are nerves inside tendons. If the tendons over stretch, the nerves may not be able to adjust to that. So some of your nerve pain may be because of that.

Try not to overdo things or overstretch.

Nerve healing --axon repair-- uses B-vits including B12, and fish oil.

But many anti-inflammatory things also help prevent further damage. Curcumin, tart red cherries, blueberries, etc. help.

Avoiding sugar lowers insulin and this lowers inflammatory Cox-2 cytokines.

Vitamin C is involved with collagen repair... so at least 500mg a day of this is useful.

Look up on Google -- natural anti-inflammatories.... you'll find all sorts of suggestions there too.

We just had this nutrition article posted:

Many of us eat/take Omega-3 fatty acids in some form. Here are some references I found on how to get your omega-3:
http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/omega-3/
http://nutritionfacts.org/questions/...eal-omega-369/
http://nutritionfacts.org/video/plan...supplements-2/
http://nutritionfacts.org/video/alga...dha-vs-flax-2/

I urge you to obtain your DHA and EPA from whole plant sources such as ground flaxseed , chia seeds, and walnuts. This way you get benefit of all the other nutrients in those foods.

Many of us also take multi-vitamins and vitamin B-12 as methylcobalamin, something like 1000 mcg per day.

DHA and EPA only come from algae and living organisms.

Plants supply alpha linolenic acid. This is the essential Omega-3, that EPA and DHA are made from.

Males do not convert high amounts of these...but women do because babies need high amounts to grow a brain.

EPA and DHA therefore come from fish, krill, etc.
There are a few vegan sources now, but EPA is not high in those yet. (these are derived from vats of specially cultivated algae)

So many things can help, like knowing the level of Vit D.

I am concerned about the contamination of fish products with toxins (mercury, dioxin, etc.). Any thoughts on this? Wild-caught fish will be less likely to contain such toxins, or they will be at lower levels at least, than farmed fish.

Is fish oil safe? Is it contaminated with mercury and PCBs?

Some more on omega-3's that I just read in Main Street Vegan, Victoria Moran, page 177:

"Studies that have compared omega-3 levels in subjects who took these [algae-based] supplements to those who took fish oil capsules show virtually identical results, and taking algae-based supplements also means you're avoiding the environmental contaminants that concentrate in the fatty tissues of fish. 'Algae is sustainable and has all the benefits of fish oil without the risks,' says Michael Greger, MD. 'Even fish oil distillation is inadequate in eliminating toxins.'"

Why would algae be free from toxins?

I am trusting Dr. Greger on that somewhat, plus the knowledge that toxins are concentrated (mostly in fat tissue) as you move up in the food chain. Small fish eat algae, larger fish eat smaller fish, etc. Algae will be somewhat contaminated by whatever is in the water, but I don't believe it can be more contaminated than fish.
