Hi! I had my appointment with the doctor today. Apparently, I was reading the labs results wrong. She does not go my the standard recommended guidelines for labs. I thought they were correct but they are way off. She said that is just the norm for woman in my age group not what they should be.
She prescribed 1.5 of biest, 1.5 of testosterone, 60mg of DHEA, 60mg of pregnenolone, and progesterone 150 mg in capsules. She said she finds that the capsules of progesterone aid better in sleep. I really need that. She also upped my synth road to 125. She said I could increase or add it to my hormone cream. I chose the increase because I didn't want to change too much at one time. She said it varies when patients feel any results. She said it could take up to 3 months. Did it take you that long? She also has many 2 supplemental capsules and one that is called brain. I opted not to try those right now. If I'm going to put out this money I want to be sure it is the hormones that are working. What do you think about the prescribed doses? I guess everyone is different. It appeared I was very depleted in almost everything. |

I PM'd some of you yesterday with the above message. I know it could take a while to get a response but I have a question.
I stared the 150 of progesterone last night. I was up all night with pain which led to anxiety about the med and more pain. I researched a lot this morning and found progesterone is suppose to aid in sleep and lessen anxiety. Could my symptoms last night be from just starting the progesterone? Did anyone get increased pain with progesterone. It all may just be a flare up. It appears my pain level gets worse more often lately. |

Wow, that's a lot to take on at once. I cannot take the oral progesterone. It caused my feet to ache. At first I thought it was just a coincidence but after the third night, it was getting worse so I stopped. The aches were most noticeable upon waking. Once I stopped it, it all cleared up.
I switched to the cream and started at a very low dose and worked up. Too much of it at once causes problems for me. My doc was perplexed because she never saw this kind of response. She loves the oral stuff and uses it. Do you think the increase in synthroid plus the progesterone is suspect. Or just the Synth causing anxiety. Maybe try just the synth for the first week before adding in anything else. I don't think you have to do them all at once. DHEA and Pregnenolone are precursor to the estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. I basically had no estrogen either but my doc started me off at a very low dose. |

I don't think it was the synthyroid because I didn't take that until this morning. I just tried taking it earlier tonight. I took half a unisom. I can't do two nights in a row like last night. I'm hoping once I get use to it this will stop.
Thanks! |

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forums and am dealing with idiopathic small fiber neuropathy. I'm also 52 years old, and am just now experiencing signs of menopause. I should also mention that I was on the BCP for 22 years and went off of it in October. The craziness started in November. I started taking a estardiol/progestin combo in February which immediately knocked out some horrible heart palpitations I was having (1300 PVCs in 24 hours!), but it did nothing for my neuropathic symptoms. An alt med doc had me do a hormonal saliva test which showed no obvious problems other than elevated cortisol, but I've also read that the saliva tests aren't terribly useful. I have m annual gyn appt in a couple of weeks, and would like to know what I can ask. Before you get bio-identicals, do they run tests I assume? If so, what kind? Thanks for any thoughts. Janie |

Yes, you get tested to find out all levels first.
All day/four hour saliva tests for Cortisol are good also. I hope your doctor knows how to test, what bio identicals to give and amounts. Most do not unless they are integrative MDs. I never found a gyn that knew about any of it.

Hi!
The doctor I use is an integrative MD also. Most GYN's prescribe synthetic hormones. At least mine did. She gave me estring. It is estrogen in an inertial ring. If you go on line and research bio identical hormones you will find a lot of information. Also, I was able to find books on it in the local library. My doctor had me get blood work before she prescribed anything. |

Ok, thanks. I am already going to an integrated med doc who ordered the four hour test already, but she doesn't do bioidenticals. She said nothing looked out of whack on the test results, though. I guess I'll take those results to my regular gyn just to get her thoughts. I'm just having a tough time ignoring the fact that this all started a month after I went off the BCP.

No harm in trying to find out if it has anything to do with your neuropathy!
