Default Does anyone here still drink alcohol?

I haven't had a drink in a few months and it's hard. I've still been going out on weekends but i'm the only sober one there. Everyone always asks why i'm not drinking to which I respond, "Just taking a break" and they look at me weird. Does anyone know how negatively weekend drinking can affect the nerves? Can I just pop some extra b-vitamins that day? Weeekend drinking meaning one night a week of getting a good buzz, but not the point of throwing up. I mainly drink vodka or scotch.

Be PROUD that you are sober with your friends. I'm MUCH older than you but didn't have any alcohol until I was in my 30's after my divorce, many moons ago. It was fun, I guess, but at this point I LOVE that I'm not spending my money on alcohol. When I see people checking out with alcohol, wines, beers, I think to myself, thank goodness I don't miss it.

But, have to say recently, I've been kinda "drained" for whatever is going on, old age and chronic pain from OA and Fibro and hip surgery... so I drink V8, it has lots of potassium and the other day I bought a 6pack of Stella Atorio (sp) beer and poured half V8 and half beer in a glass, squeeze some lemon and so so tasty and a Lift.

I don't see having a drink in MODERATION, but a DUI changes one's life. Don't think about what other's think. As I see it, "they" are much much stricter today than in my days with drinking and driving. Take care...B vitamins are necessary anyway. Potassium too.

Has your condition improved at all since you've been abstaining? If it has, then it's probably a no-brainer - right?

If things haven't changed in that time, then I would think occasional drinking in moderation might be OK for you.

I still drink moderately. It doesn't seem to cause problems for me in the short term. If anything, I tend to feel better for a few days afterward. What is it doing to me in the long term? I guess I really don't know for sure - but a lot of studies seem to show that moderate drinking isn't bad, and may actually have some health benefits. But "moderation" in those studies was maybe 2 drinks.

To me, it's kind of like deciding whether or not to take a new medication. There's a risk/reward decision you need to take. For me, wine tasting and wine drinking is a hobby that my wife and I along with some of our friends enjoy greatly. I partake in moderation - knowing that there could be some risk, but enjoying every minute of it because the pain subsides due to the distractions and the alcohol - and for a while I feel just like everyone else.

Typically my wife & I will split a bottle - so that's 2 glasses each, maybe twice a week. I rarely drink more than that.

Just get some club soda with a lime, or quinine water with a lime and no one will notice. That is what I do.

I still drink a little bit... only multi-distilled vodka. Wine will attack my feet within an hour or two and make for a very bad night.
Beer upsets my GI tract. Both wine and beer also set off my gout.

Maybe one drink once a week or less. I tend to crave a drink after working physically alot or when I ache alot. Alcohol was always a good pain reliever for me, but I never drank socially at parties. And my husband is a recovered alcoholic more than 10 yrs now sober.

I don't drink any more - I was psychologically addicted and alcohol is a poor mix with my anti-depressant (things which my close friends know).

At general social gatherings I stay with mineral water which is usually fine. If somebody tries to get me to drink I just say that I can't "for medical reasons", which shuts them up.

Sitting here drinking the last 1/4 of the Stella Artois I opened the other day, I was about to throw it down the drain, but decided to drink it...like it mixed with my V8. A little Lift.

I still drink on occasion, but almost always in small quantities. I've never noticed any effect on my neuropathy.

Yes, I still have an occasional beer or three - no more than 3 honest. When I was on Lyrica I noticed the next day I would really feel like crap if I had the 3rd beer. Now that I'm back on Gralise(nuerotin) that the rare occasions I have the 3rd beer I'm OK in the next day. The only day I have a beer is Friday so I really don't over do it. Also I take the last medications before I go to sleep which is normally an hour or so after my last drink, I imagine that helps a little.

I have not had anything stronger than beer in over a year, not from the nueropathy but from Xarelto and instructions from my cardiologist.

Not too sure if I've noticed improvement since quitting. But I was drinking when the symptoms started so not sure if that contributed to it getting worse.

I don't really care if people ask me or not. It's just that I miss the nice buzz and stress relief of drinking and letting loose.

Maybe I will try some this weekend and see what happens.
