Hi, just wondering if neuropathy can make the bones sore (or ache). Lately the bones in my ankles and my shin bones are sore. My shine bones sort of ache and when trying to turn my foot inwards the ankle starts to hurt and cannot turn them inwards very far (nor outwards) Any thoughts on this. Thanks

I think this may be a tendon issue.
When I have problems with my feet... which flare and get better... and ankles...it seems to be centered up my lower leg, mostly in front. When this happens I use my magnesium lotion on the whole lower leg and ankle, and it loosens up quickly... within an hour or so. I usually do this at night...so things can return to normal. This is the lotion: http://www.amazon.com/Morton-Epsom-L...n+epsom+lotion Divide a quarter's diameter of the lotion, between the two legs, and apply it daily. A little goes a long way. Many people are low in magnesium and when this happens all sorts of musculoskeletal issues develop. The magnesium will be absorbed and relax muscles and tendons, block pain impulses, and will improve circulation to the area. It is a wonderful, inexpensive but very necessary effect. Apply only to intact skin.

I have used mag oil spray over many years but found it irritating on a lot of my skin. I never heard of this "lotion"...so will check it out. I use many topicals, and just went back to Castor Oil which is an ancient oil with many many uses.....I like to mix my topicals ..
So the Epsom lotion is not irritating? Thanks... I like Topricin homeopathic for pain too, use it a lot....Ultra Tiger Balm too. Every joint on my body hurts, except my face.... C |

I believe the lotion carries the mag thru the skin some.
The spray on "oil" does not. Many of us here on the forums use the Morton's. I think it is fabulous. WalMart and Walgreen's have it....and it is on line at Amazon too. Not all stores sell it yet.

Thank You, I will give it a try. I also noticed my skin felt very tight in the last few weeks, hope this helps with that.

I use a spin bike almost daily and one part of the program is to flop my feet forward and backward and roll them left to right in order to keep the largest range of motion possible. I have progressed from using a walker to free walking but ankles and knees still get tight if I miss too many days. I used to self massage knees, shins, calves for a little relief. The Mortons Lotion helped me with burning and tender skin on the tops of my feet. IMHO the deeper pain you describe as "bone" pain could be tendon or larger muscles. Good Luck, Ken in Texas.

I deal with OA bodywide NOW as my feet were the last areas to be hit with OA...lower back issues started at 18 and I'll be 77...hip replacement in 2010 left me so worse off with the body alignment and advancing OA. More trauma to the body, these replacements are not a walk in the park....
Often wish I hadn't done it, but don't know where I'd be as groin pain bone spurs were the big issue for me to do it at 72..... I've been using Castor Oil again and just rubbed down my feet since waking up and on with the socks....CO seems to help. It sure has a lot of uses. |

The pain I have in my legs feels like it is coming from the bones, but nerve pain plays tricks on you. I do have progressive muscle weakness as mine is a hereditary sensory-motor neuropathy, so at least some of the pain is from trying to function with weakening muscles.
I have lost most of the range of motion in my ankles much as you describe. After a sprain last fall we worked on this at physical therapy and it improved a little, but then we hit a wall because that is how this disease works. I walk so far in on the insides of my feet that I am getting leg braces to protect my ankles, correct my gait, and give me a little help with foot drag -I am unable to move my toes or the front of my feet. Do you know what type of neuropathy you have? Have they evaluated you for muscle weakness? |

Susanne, and everyone,
My ankles feel the same, with the pain stabbing up through my leg bones like broken glass. I also have a savage, boring pain 2 inches below my left knee on the inside of my leg. This can be so severe it can make me collapse. I believe it is referred from lower spine problems - has anyone any idea/comment. Dave.
