Hi and welcome to the forum, as Gentaj has already mentioned that nerve's can regenerate when they are in the right environment, i know this is true because i myself have healed nearly to a full recovery in a 4 year period, mine being a differant cause than yours but by getting onto the cause of the damage early can differ the outcome greatly, hopefully your doctors treatment will bring about the right environment to allow for this to happen & i don't think your doctor would give you false predictions, keep in mind that nerve repair is slow and the repairing process can be identical to normal symptoms.
