Default For those with motormeuropathy or mobility issues

My muscles in my lower legs, lower back and neck are extremely tight. They feel like they are shortening. For example, I tried looking up in the sky with my son to look at planes and I couldn't even tilt my head back halfway, my neck muscles are so tight. I don't have to try to stretch them like that, just sitting around it feels like my chin is being pulled towards my chest by my neck muscles.

Anybody know what this means?

if I said I know anything. Just a sympathetic note to say that when I get on a stationary bike I start real slow and feel the stretching of everything related to ankles, knees, expecially knees. After a few minutes I can increase speed and go up onto my toes and feel a little furthur stretch. I don't know what is going on but if I miss these stretches for a couple of days it feels like my knees will "lock-up" and will pop and crack when forced past the restricted range of motion. I also do gentle head rolls as I spin on the bike. This is for a clicking of some sort in the neck, not solely tightness. If you try stretches, I know that you will start small and gentle. Good Luck, Ken in Texas.

My motor nerves are affected, but the symptoms are weakness. Was it a one time thing, or are you still having difficulty lifting your head? The nerves affected for me are my lower legs, but they stay weak all the time. it does not come and go.

It's not a one time thing, it's like this all the time but it's the worst In the morning or after sitting/ resting for a bit.

Does anybody know if this is a sign of muscle wasting? Or some other form of losing muscle function?

This can be a SFN symptom. At my onset I had tight muscles and some pretty nasty muscle knots too in my shoulders and neck.

When you have strong SFN symptoms, it can seem like your are losing muscle function, but really it's a perceived feeling of the loss of muscle function and not an actual loss of muscle function.

I had this symptom in my legs/feet and I actually had to pull over to the side of the road and stop driving.

That symptom has resolved, not my entire situation.

I'd look into tai chi exercises. Too many movements will tire you out, well, they did me, but when I tried it out I was able to rotate my neck looking both ways backing down the driveway much further.

It was amazing, actually.

Canagirl and KNJon,

Canagirl, your symptoms sound like "stiffness," aka "gelling."
This article does a good job of describing similar symptoms.
If this sounds familiar, doesn't mean you do or don't have fibromyalgia, per se.
This is a good description of stiffness/gelling throughout the day.

I like Jon's suggestion. I have found Tai Chi helpful as well.
