for systemic issues. If you want to increase magnesium, foods, and other supplements should be tried.
If all you want is a laxative action, then continue with the oxide. But it is next to useless systemically. Please read this thread for more information: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=1138

I was just at Costco getting my jinxed blood pressure RX filled and they had generic slow-mag (Mag64) for $4.87 /60....that is 2 dollars less than WalMart where I usually get it. I use the generic typically to save $$. If you feel good at 2 a day, then that is all you need. I wouldn't go over 4 a day however. Using high dose magnesium should be monitored by a doctor, esp if you have any decreased kidney functions.

Thank you. I had read that post and guess I'm a little slow. I thought magnesium helps with muscle tightness so it would help with the cramps I get in my neck and other areas. I would also love to get my bowel issues under control and have discussed the severe constipation. Trust me we have tried everything. In the hospital they had to give me enemas to go. The body is so screwed up from years of the ed still though healthy weight. I guess it takes time. So the slow mag is the best for what I'm wanting it for? The initial dose is 2 and is there different amounts in the pills?Mrs D what benefits should you see so you know if you feel good or not to take more? Why do people take the kind I bought then?

was the first form ever made. It is typically still in many therapeutic medical
textbooks. It has only been recently that bioavailability studies comparing how much is actually ABSORBED from a magnesium tablet, that the truth was discovered that Magnesium Oxide remains in the GI tract. Slow Mag is only one way to improve absorption. This product was designed years ago BTW, to treat magnesium deficiencies. It was developed by the Searle drug company. The patent was just purchased by Purdue labs. I have this information with links explaining all the types on the Vitamin forum. You really need to read it...to see why choosing a chelated type or delayed acting type is best. When you have cramping muscles or other symptoms, and they go away rapidly on a dose you are taking, then you know it is working. I can feel that within a day! The links I have spent alot of time finding and sharing here are very interesting. Vision, hearing, seizures, ADHD, muscle issues, grinding teeth at night, diabetes, etc are all in my thread.

.................................................. .................................................. .... Have you tried sipping hot water ? When i had my hip replacement done, there was a guy in my ward that had severe constipation, i seen him vomiting and he told me that he had not used his bowels in 4 or 5 days, the hospital had given him all different med's to make his bowel work but nothing had worked, he said they were going to do an enema on him next which he wasn't to pleased about, so i told him about sipping hot water and he said he had never heard of it but was willing try anything, so he had one cup that night, in the morning he still hadn't gone so i said try another which he did, within an hour it worked, he couldn't thank me enough, oh boy, i was sorry i told him, ![]() ![]() oh yeah, the supplement slippery elm helps as well. good luck Brian |

Thank you. I will reread. I know things are always being improved. Today and yesterday I took my original magnesium oxide today only the 1 250 though and on empty stomach. I don't know if fluke but went potty. The thing is it made my stomach burn and raw. I'm going to switch to the one your talking about but will it also help with the potty issue or more for absorbing. I want both. Is it bad though I took it on empty stomach? Brian I will try the water sipping. Is it diff then coffee in its effect? That story of you on crutches made me laugh cause my roomies when I got an enema on lets just say after longer then your friend of no bm thats how they felt.OY and did I need a laugh. Thank you

Unfortunately, there is no Costco anywhere near me. ![]() Calcium doesn't seem to like me. Every time I try to take any kind of calcium it gives me terrible constipation. Maybe I'll try one dose of the Slow-Mag a day on an empty stomach.
