I have autoimmune mediated SFN and lately my legs are bothering me A LOT. They tingle like crazy and they are also on fire burning. And not even a sensation of burning like the brain is filling in a feeling because the pathway is distorted, like actual hot-to-the-touch, melting an icepack, kind of burning. I've had several people feel my leg and they all agree it is very hot to the touch, like what a fever feels like on your forehead.
This is happening mainly in the evening and on the tops of the thighs and downward toward my hips. Does this sound like a small fiber neuropathy issue or more of a long-fiber nerve problem like an entrapment or something? It is on both sides. I've thought about maybe RLS, which is also neurological. I also have the chills when this happens and I feel sick to my stomach. Every single night. If anybody could point me in the right direction or tell me if neuropathy can be actual burning, I'd appreciate it. I'm seeing a new neurologist in a few weeks but I thought I'd ask you knowledgeable people first! |

For several years, I have been dealing with painful idiopathic neuropathy predominately causing ankle/feet burning pain.
The past few months, I have been dealing with what I believe may be bursa problems in both inner hips which appear to be causing pressure/inflamation on a nerve near the groin area as well as some pain from hip/thigh area. I am also dealing with some abdominal issues as well. Are you having pain or worsening when laying on your side? In my case, I don't think this is neuropathy related. Actually and I forgot to mention, this only happens when I'm sitting down at night trying to relax on my couch or chair. If I am standing, walking, or lying down I do not have this burning.

Have you seen your GYN recently? Just a thought problems there can cause leg pain. I'm not certain about the heat though.

--strongly implies a compressive aspect to whatever you're experiencing.
Have you had any recent imaging of the lumbar/sacral spine? Even people with peripheral neuropathy are not exempt from also experiencing symptoms due to nerve root compression from spinal issues. And the symptoms from those can be exactly mimicked by those of more peripheral issues. |

What is 'burning'? My feet are often ice cold to the touch,, but my experience of them is of burning, or something like burning. This is my PN which is profound.
I think this experience is very different for each person. My small fiber neuropathy (damage to the nerves of my skin) feels quite different. It feels like a very bad sunburn, with stinging, itching and stabbing pains, as well. This involves my scalp, face, eyes lips, tongue, mouth, neck, ear, arms, hands, fingers, and palms. Gabapetin just about stops my SFN. My PN is profound and cannot be affected by anything. There are three major nerves in my legs and two of them have no reaction and the third is severely damaged. I'd see a doctor about this. Chills can come from infections, and especially in the kidneys. But other infections also can cause them. Chills every night and feeling sick
sounds serious to me. And as glenntaj suggests, a serious compression in the lower back is also possible.
