What you're describing sounds like what I experience a lot these days. I describe it as "local adrenaline-rush like" feelings in isolated parts of my body. They always seem directional and pulsating...for lack of a better word. For example, the other night, it was running from the top of my right shoulder down the back of my upper arm and stopping at my elbow. It lasted for about 5 minutes. Another popular target is the left side of my torso up through my armpit and a slight ways down the inside of my arm.

Mine are not painful or burning, just that odd moving "rush" sensation, and I'm definitely more susceptible to them when I'm cold.

If a normal person spent one day in my body they would lose their mind.

Just pins and needles that move around quickly...may be due to
a temporary acidosis. This can happen with Topamax medication, pre-diabetes, and anxious breathing (hyperventilation).

There are so many types and causes of PN it is very hard to
identify the causes.

I had an episode last Sunday when I had the audacity to drink two beers while watching a football game with friends. My legs and feet again started their cramping thing which I had previously thought was tied to salt intake. I guzzled two big glasses of water, and it subsided. In thinking about it, I had not been drinking my normal amount of water that day, but had two big mugs of coffee and then two beers. I assumed it was just dehydration.

I seem to be finding that both alcohol and caffeine can alter the acidity of your blood.

Yes, I do think there are many food triggers too... at least that is true for me. MSG is a big trigger for me. It usually will increase or start burning within a short time for me esp at night.

Hot sauces made from peppers (nightshade veggies) can also cause burning.

And of course, histamine containing foods or releasers.
Histamine reactions and PN:

Hubby likes a vegetable dish he found at Trader Joe's... an Asian fried rice with veggies... last night that provoked a burning event for me, which I had to take Benadryl for. I avoid everyday Benadryl because it really dries me out...but it worked within 20 minutes for me.

So keeping a food journal may reveal triggers for pins, needles and burning.

To date, I haven't found any foods that I can immediately cite as being triggers for my neuropathy flares, but I'm going to start paying closer attention.

The two things that have caused debilitating cramping were beer and pretzels.

That's pretty sad coming from someone who is half-German.
