I do have a walgreens just down the street so I called them and all they carry is the slowmag so I would have to order it and that's not free.

I will call Costco tomorrow. I have a Samclub membership but like Costco better. We are scheduled to have one built like a half a mile from my home but with the economy who knows now.

Thanks for your awesome help mrsD!

Question

I have never heard of a drugstore charging extra for ordering something. Did they tell you they would charge you extra?

That is totally odd.

Here is some information on Niacin safety:

http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocente...cin/index.html
Quote:
Common side effects of nicotinic acid include flushing, itching, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and vomiting. Hepatotoxicity (liver cell damage), including elevated liver enzymes and jaundice, has been observed at intakes as low as 750 mg of nicotinic acid/day for less than three months (34, 35). Hepatitis has been observed with timed-release nicotinic acid at dosages as little as 500 mg/day for two months, although almost all reports of severe hepatitis have been associated with the timed-release form of nicotinic acid at doses of 3 to 9 grams per day used to treat high cholesterol for months or years (8). Immediate-release (crystalline) nicotinic acid appears to be less toxic to the liver than extended release forms. Immediate-release nicotinic acid is often used at higher doses than timed-release forms, and severe liver toxicity has occurred in individuals who substituted timed-release niacin for immediate-release niacin at equivalent doses (33)......
Nicotinamide is generally better tolerated than nicotinic acid. It does not generally cause flushing. However, nausea, vomiting, and signs of liver toxicity (elevated liver enzymes, jaundice) have been observed at doses of 3 grams/day (33). Nicotinamide has resulted in decreased insulin sensitivity at doses of 2 grams/day in adults at high risk for insulin-dependent diabetes (20).
Niacin has been studied for quite a while now, because in really high doses, it is used to lower cholesterol in some patients.

Most commercial B-complexes have nicotinamide as the niacin form.

Anyone getting liver toxicity at the lower doses, may have a reason for that...pre-existing liver damage from viruses or other situations.

CoQ-10 (300mg of quality enhanced absorption) for 2 months.

I'd change the magnesium to a better form.
I'd add 200mg of OTC thiamine 100mg daily in divided doses.
I'd try r-lipoic acid 100mg a day

I'd get tested for Vit D levels...which when low contribute to chronic pain.
See this new video just released as to how important this is:

mrsD,

You suggested taking 300 mg of CoQ-10 for 2 months. What do I do after the 2 months of taking?

Also out of the above what is the most important other then the B-12 to start with? I'm having a hard time keeping it in so I'm going to introduce all the above slowly. I'm thinking it's the Magnesium citrate causing me the looseness.

How much magnesium are you taking? At 1/2 the RDA you should not have much looseness.

Two months is the typical time period to see some improvement.
Even small/tiny gains, means that the supplements are working.

At 300mg you should see/feel something at 2 months. If not, it would be your decision to go longer. Use a quality CoQ-10 that says it has enhanced absorption.

Remember you have PN for 12 years!
Supplements for you are iffy for this long..some cells may be dead. (numbness would suggest dead cells).
Pain is better, meaning some improvement may still be possible.

-I'm taking 150mg of magnesium citrate in powder form. I was trying to do this twice a day is this to much? I'm on soooooo many vitamin pills right now I have no idea if one or all are making me loose. I've cut back on the vitamin c to just one 500mg pill a day as well.

-Ok so after 2 months on the CoQ-10 if I'm improving stay on that amount right? If not I will go to 3 month and see. It's says "high absorption" so I think it's ok.

-Yes 12 years is a long time and I have tried the vitamin regimen before. I tried a 6 months trail other then b-12 which I have been pretty good at about 5 years ago. I don't think it helped but for some reason I feel I must try again. I'm committed to getting in the best physical condition I can, eating right, laughing, crying and living in a way to give my body a fighting chance. If nothing else I will feel better then doing the opposite. I've treated myself badly for the past several years just because I had basically given up and said the heck with it. I've drank 2 or 3 64ounce refills of diet coke a day for years and I believe this really wreaked havoc on my digestive system. So just like it says if "numb toes and woes" if I treat myself well at the minimum I will feel better then before and at best I will improve. Now no soda, red meat, gluten, little sugar, lots of greens and fruits, lots of exercise and a little weight loss.

My vitamin list:

That Doctor's Best product has Bioperine in it. If you take any RX medications it might interfere with them.

The other type of enhanced absorption products are "gel" types, and some say Q-sorb on them, etc.

Cut back to 1/2 of the magnesium you are taking...and take it with food. Food helps with "looseness".

Vit C causes diarrhea in some people in high doses. I only take 500mg a day myself. (timed release so it is slowly absorbed).

And really.... try to avoid MSG... that is murder on nerves.
So is aspartame artificial sweetener. I avoid it whenever possible. The aspartic acid can overstimulate nerves, like glutamate does.

Some of what people get with PN is dietary. We consume things that are just terrible for the nervous system.

The only RX I'm on is Lyrica and sometimes I need tramadol. Is there a known issue with these?
