Long story so here I go....
I started to have some pretty intense lower back pain the last week of April 09 which felt like fire 30 seconds after sitting down and continuing till i got up. It then started hurting towards my right lower pelvic region. I went to the back doc (who had no answer) who referred me to a phys therapist who gave me a back brace (whice made it hurt even worse)! Saw Phys Medicine twice, internal med, GP, and a chiropractor twice with no luck, had an MRI of lower back and it showed nothing. Only pain killers that put me to sleep and dont work. All this time getting worse. Finally a week ago I was @ California Adventure just standing there and my legs felt like they were going numb. Saw a Neurologist who said i had carpel tunnel. The next day both legs, feet and hands would go numb on and off. Finally yesterday I was going numb in both arms just below the elbow, feet, big toe, calf down to ankle, twitching in right index finger, right pinky felt like it had a rubber band tied around it and tingling (that lasted for 5-6 hours), pressure in my temples, and hot flashes in my face and neck, and occasional nausea. I went to the ER and they diagnosed me with numbness. Huh ya think! Finally today, I was @ my desk typing and felt like my arms were 1000 pounds each. I have also noticed that I am very forgetful @ times. I can forget something in mid conversation, and I am noticing that some of my words are not being pronounced correctly. I am so scared, someone please help!!! Does this sound like Peripheral Neurapathy?? |

Hi
Is all this numbness just on one side, or both? Did the neuro order any tests? I'm no doc, and I'm sure not a PN expert. I usually lurk here! Can you go back to your PCP, or a different neuro? Or maybe an ortho who specializes in spines? Good Luck |

Both sides, but more so on the right with occasional flares on the left. You know it's exhausting being bounced from 1 doc to another, but i wont give up!Thanks for the advice.

My experience with this condition started with me waking up with my leg numb and when I tried to use it, it wouldn't work. I lost my balance and fell. Called my GP who stated that it was a neurological problem and sent me to a neurologist. My EMG/NCV showed PN, numbness, and lumbar radiculopathy. I'm still waiting to see a neurologist as the first one I saw just ignored it. I'm sorry I can't share anymore information with you. I know how tiring it is to be shuffled from doctor to doctor, but you need to find a neurologist who is willing to try to help you. Good luck and take care.

I agree that you need a new neuro that can run more tests. Do you have a major hospital or teaching hospital near you? Has your gp done a full set of bloodwork? If not I would also encourage that for things like auto immune,b12,blood sugar. Was the mri just of the lowe back and not the spine or does that cover both? What about of the brain? Hang in there and I hope you find someone who is willing to work with you.

You can find every test for PN at
www.lizajane.org and see which bases your doc has.... or hasn't, covered.

A phys med doc gave me Nortriptaline on thursday for Fibromyalgia even though she said that I dont have any of the major symtoms (the tender spots) but just wanted to make sure. I am soooo tired of all this guessing and cost. I d get fired if I guessed how to do my job! The MRI was just of the lower back because thats were my pain was initially. The day before is when the numbess in my legs started. I keep telling these people that if they dont help me find out what this is soon, I will end up in a wheel chair! Thank you so much for your advice. |

Seriuosly- get an MRI done asap from your neurologist. Don't give up now- or the MS wins! stay positive, yes MS sucks, stay strong and focused at the task at hand, move through your symptoms. Start looking into increased vitamin D. I have a prescription of 50,000 IUs and take one pill per week- I feel like a champion.

You need an MRI for your neck, upper and lower back. It could be MS but I would think your Neuro would of picked that up so I may be wrong.
