Drug of Choice.......

I know everyone has a different degree of neuropathy and different symptoms/causes for neuropathy, but just wondering what drug those of you that are on a pain killers seem to work the best for you......I am about ready to take anything to get these pains to stop. All of a sudden my 1200 mg. of Gabapentin is useless (was working for a year!)

I started with Gabapentin but after 5 weeks I switched to Lyrica. I take 50 mg. 3 times a day. I've found it to be a bit less sedating as the Gabapentin. I also find it makes me less depressed. I've only been on it for one week and 2 days, so I'll have to let you know how its working in the future, but so far its a Godsend.

Having been battling lyrica for 2 years on and off. Its a real catch 22, terrible side effect but great pain relief. Around 3 months ago i stopped again but the pain returned and it was very real. The longest on this drug for me was 1 month. This time I decided I had to put up with it and give it my best shot. The latest symptom was double vision and eye strain but it went away and so did the drowsiness and brain, speech co ordination. No side effects now at all.
Im on 150mg in the morning and 75mg in the afternoon and a bit of marijuana at night

Works perfect

Hi All,

I wish I could take the Lycrica's and Neurontin's but the biggest side effect for me and really the only one is weight gain. I have went up and down 60lbs 3x's in 6 years. Right now I'm working on the 3rd time going down. So I just can't take any of the gabapentin's at all. My PN is really just being control by a small amount of narcotic pain killers. I have run through the whole line of drugs and my body just won't take it. But the gabapentin's did work for the neuropathic pain I even think better than the pain killers. I also have RSD.
Do any of you suffer fro the weight gain?

Good Luck

Gabbycakes

I have been taking 200mg Lyrica 3 x day, for the past 3 years with a 25-30 lb weight gain - and no other side effects. Along with 100mg Tramadol 4 x day- My PN pains and symptoms have been under control at a 1-3 rating as opposed to a 7-9 without meds.

I have the weight gain and couldn't afford to gain an ounce before I started, so it is very disheartening. I try to eat as little as I can, but cannot survive without my chocolate fix daily. To add to the fun, I have noticed hair loss, have some wig catelogs I have been looking through!

I am considering switching to Lyrica, even though I believe the side effects are quiet similar, just wondering if Lyrica may work better for pain for me.

If weight issue become any worse though, maybe I need to look into a different pain approach all together, thinking of going to a pain Dr. or maybe "growing" my own!

"growing" my own
LOL your chocolate consumption will triple. Topomax has mixed reviews but apparently helps you lose weight

As well as your memory and your mind!!

Lyrica weight gain was, for me, approx the same as gabapentin/Neurontin
since I gained on Neurontin, lost on Weight watchers and gained same back on Lyrica but haven't lost it yet.
Complication-I stopped smoking with Chantix, am 93 days off cigarettes, but have gained 10lbs more, during the last 3 mos.
P.S. - I am also a choco-holic.

I haven't found a single medicine that works for me. Gabapentin, Lyrica, Topamax, Amitriptyline, Lidocaine, Pain meds (Tylenol with codeine, vicodin, oxycodone, fentanyl patch, etc)... none of them.

However, I am having surgery next week to have a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted... and during my trial I got 99-100% pain relief from my neuropathy pain! It was truly HEAVEN since nothing else has worked for me at all! It is amazing and cannot wait for the next 8 days to pass.

Given all of the poisons we take, one has to ponder why MJ is so demonized. For heavens sake, it is a dried weed, as in herb....hmmm.:Scratch-Head: It is highly illegal in my state, (altho it is growing everywhere wild) so, can't use it, and I don't know if I could that I would, but options would be nice.
