Eeeek! Help Me Get Through This!
I have an appointment Friday at 7:30AM, to have 12 teeth pulled and I am so nervous, anxious and terrified, that I've made myself sick. I'm shaking from just writing about it.
I don't know if it was the meds or what, but my teeth started breaking off in chips and now they all have to be pulled, well not all, but 12 of them. Then the Dental surgeon will replace them with a full upper denture. I already have a partial there and the full denture will probably choke me. Please help me get there Friday and tell me I'll live, before I run away to somewhere, where they can't find me.:D I really really hate this. Has anyone here been through this? Thanks in advance, |
((((sally)))
my aunt jeanette had this happen. all the chipping...then had them pulled.:( all i can say is get things ready at home. everything to make you comfy. keep your nutrition up with drinks like boost or insure. you won't want them cold, but room temp. purreed type of foods. cream soups. sleep at much as you can. i will say my aunt jeanette said she was so glad she had it done. they put the dentures in place right away. it kept any swelling down i guess. oh...will probably have some bruising. depending on what the oral surgeon reccomends...but ice packs at first for a few days, then heat to releive and soreness. keep up with any vitamins you are taking. |
How awful. Might you get a second and third opinion to see if there are other options? Some dentists pull at the drop of the hat, others work to find other solutions.
If you have to pull, why not one at a time? All 12-- that sounds traumatic for the body and for the mind. |
Sounds wretched to me Sally. I just had my 1st filling performed with gas, and I was not very happy with that. I hope everything goes well for you. Are you going to have someone around afterwards to assist you?
I do wish there was something I could do. I've never heard of MS causing this type of problem. Do you have problems with dry mouth and dry eyes perhaps? I shall think of you on Friday. |
I'm feeling your pain.... panic.... well, actually, abject terror was more like it for me. I had six pulled at one time because of chronic abscesses that were also triggering TN. They were pulled using only novocaine -- you can imagine. I was back two weeks later for an oral surgeon to remove bone from my lower jaw so the partial would fit, and also to remove another tooth. This time I was given a sedative and also gas. If you're having twelve done at one time I imagine they'll go that route with you, Sally. Trust me, you won't feel a thing. The temporary denture they give you while you're still under will seal off all the sockets, stop the bleeding, and prevent dry socket. I doubt you'll have much pain, but they'll probably write you a scrip for a painkiller just in case.
You'll be ok, Sally. Really. The worst part is dreading it beforehand. Keep us posted, ok? Chris |

Versed is what they normally give to sedate patients for colonoscopy and other "uncomfortable" procedures. |
Sally you WILL NOT have any trouble what so ever. I know you have been through a lot worse. While i was In Iraq we got hit by an IED, and It blew all of my upper teeth out and all but 6 of my lower teeth. It hurt something awful, but I didn't have any thing to numb It because we had no Idea Of what was going to happen. The few teeth I have are chipping also, I don't know If It's from the medicine Itself, MS or maybe It could be the Depleted Uranium I was exposed to.
You can handle this Sally. Just think of all of us there holding your hand. Lot's of prayers your way. Take care and GOD bless.:) |
You will love VErsed. Its my drug of choice :)

You guys are so terrific. I knew I could depend on you to calm my jitters. The oral surgeon gave me Darvocet-N-100 and a Z-pack to take after the procedure. Well, I take the first dose of the Z-pack the day of the procedure and the Darvocet for pain.
I called my wonderful Reg. Dentist today and talked to his sidekick.:D and she calmed me even more. She told me to stop at Wendys for a Frosty or 2 to take home. I won't feel like eating, but she said, I must, because, if I don't I will be naucious(sp) and weak. Thanks to you all...Cautious, BBS, Chris, Chris66, KingRex and James, for calming me with your painless experiences....except for James.. ..an IED!!!! You poor thing..OUCH! On the whole, I think I'd rather do it the more gentile way. Thanks again, and I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe not Friday, but deffinately on Sat. I'm taking you all with me...I hope you don't mind.:o Hugs, |
Take good care of yourself Sally! Have someone check in on you? I know dental procedures aren't like they used to be... It should be just fine. And it sounds like your dentist and his team are good.
Hugs, Ewizabeth |
