Default Problems with hearing?

I just wanted to write in and see how many have issues when it comes to hearing?

I have my RSD full body and internal. Before about 6 months ago I had issues with my hearing being way to sensitive to everything and was always telling everyone to be quiet. Well now its going the opposit way and am loosing hearing starting in the right ear and first going in and out now its constant and has moved to the left. Now even my family is starting to tell as the tv and radio is higher and sometimes when I talk I talk louder than I should be. I have horrible pressure in my right ear it feels like I am in an airplane and in about the last 3 months about every 3 days it drains but the scarriest thing is it drains dark red. I told my doc about loosing hearing and he said for my state of RSD its normal but if it gets worse he will send me to a ENT specialist, but I havent yet told him of the draining. Anyone know what this could be, it kind of scares me and my mom as the dark red looks alot like blood which we all no isnt normal.
Anyone else have any of these issues?

Definitely go see an ENT specialist and don't wait any longer please. What meds are you on for the RSD? I learned the hard way that many of the meds prescribed for RSD have side effects that affect our hearing. Don't just chalk it up to a symptom of RSD as it may very well be something else that needs to be examined seriously?

I wish you well.

Anything draining out of your ear needs to be examined ASAP. It doesn't sound like anything to do with RSD. It could be an infection of some sort that has gone on too long. Get to the doc before the hearing loss become permanent.

Hugs,

Karen

Thank you both for your help.

The meds I am on is Ketamine infusion every week at 250mg, Demerol, Baclofen, Keppre, meclizine, Prednisone. I am not on much as I have allergies to many drugs and these so far have been the only ones I can take.

Would you think I can last another week or so, my doctor isnt here at the moment he is speaking at the RSD conference in vegas and wont be home until I think Tuesday. My doctor is also one and a half hours away and my mom who drives me isnt home as she is Alaska driving down our truck and horse trailer, its just me and my 16yr. old brother. I might have to be going to the ER today as I am in a very bad flair and my bladder is starting to shut down so I guess I can ask them.

Would an infection go on for this long? I will get to my doctor as soon as I can, I know I probably should have told him sooner I was just afraid of making a big deal and it ends up being nothing.

Thanks again for all the help!

Default Hi Niki,

I have hearing issues.

When I was growing up my right ear drained all of the time. When I was 19, I had an eardrum replaced. They said that I had ear infections and that's what caused the draining and my right eardrum had rotted out.

I'm 58 now and about 8 years ago I went to an ear specialist in Denver due to my hearing getting worse which was after the RSD. Of course the eardrum hadn't healed right but it was too late to repair due to dead nerves.

Noises got louder for me after the RSD started but I chalk that up to the RSD pain and being so stressed due to the pain not being under control.

They did tell me in Denver that my hearing in my right ear was gone and my left was about 50%. I sure can't afford hearing aids. It's frustrating because people talk to me and I miss out on a lot of interesting stories or should I say gossip. LOL

Do go to an ENT. The draining doesn't sound like it's from RSD. Don't wait for your Dr. to send you, make your own appt.

Hi, Im not sure how long you haVe had rsd, but if in stage iv your immune system is definitely affected. I have recurrent ear, nose and throat infections. I have double ear infections right now and am taking yet another antibiotic. My hearing remians highly sensitive when my ears are not blocked with infection. However, I had extremely sensitive hearing prior to rsd, it is just worse now and I have no tolerance for any normal volume. take care, cz

I'd follow the advise of going to see an ENT about this. Not everything that you get while having RSD is due to RSD; other things have to be ruled out first. It is really dangerous to just assume that everything just automatically is RSD and to leave it like that (and to just take it and cope with it) without a doctor looking at the current problem first.

Hi Niki,
If you did not go to the ER today, you need to give your doctor a call and tell him about the drainage & go into have them take a look at your ear. I know you said he was away but is there someone else in the office you can talk to? Sounds like it could be an infection or possibly a ruptured ear drum. The pressure your feeling could be a fluid build up. Don't just chalk that up to RSD.
Hope you get some relief.

Thank you everyone so much for all the help and suggestions, I will take everything I can get.

I did end up going to the ER yesterday but didnt bring up the hearing thing as they had enough to deal with, with my flair. I waited to long in my flair to go to the ER and my bladder shut down so was more focused on that then my hearing. I have to call my doctor today anyways to talk to him about my bladder so will talk to him about my hearing and see what he can do.

I will get this taken care of as soon as I can, I sure dont want to loose my hearing at 21 just because I didnt tell my doctor.
Thanks again everyone so very much and I will let you know what the doctors say when they find out whats going on.

Niki

I agree with Mslday and Crpsbe, Marleen. Also, I agree that even though your doctor is away, he must have someone "on-call" for his patients.

So often RSD patients are told that every ailment, pain, or discomfort is RSD, without any test being ran..just by deduction and the fact that RSD is present in the body.RSD is used as a scapegoat for what the docs can't explain, or fix.
