Help Dentist this morning

I am scared to death!!!!

That white coat syndrome has a grip on me, im sooooo afraid! The reason I have to go is because the last dude made a mistake on me. He drilled my tongue twice, and then cut soo much off my tooth he couldnt get the crown to stay on.

That is about the time I got up and walked out. Never went back. Been all this time with a root canal hole in my tooth, all wide open. Always afraid the dang RSD would get to my face if I ever went to the dentist.

Well, now that tooth is acting up, burning my tongue, mouth, throat, and making me sick to my stomach. Got me sooo scared I made the appointment, but it has to be a surgeon. The dentist couldnt touch it!! Not enough tooth for him.

At least this place knows about RSD, thats a little comforting to know. But im still scared! If there is anything I should know about RSD, and teeth, we got 2 hours to find out.

I will post the results when I get back.

Angry No insurance!

Pfffffft!

Well my insurance isnt turned on yet!!

So no surgeon today, and no refills of pain meds. Time to start calling the next one up, and up, and up till I get to talk to someone that cares.

So now I have more time to learn anything about RSD and dentists.

LoL! You like my toothless grin?

Default Dentist...urgh!

Allen,

Hi buddy. Long time no talkie!
Nobody likes the dentist. I sure understand your fear considering the experience you had. I'm glad that you are going to a surgeon this time to take care of this tooth. I think a surgeon is a good choice.

I had extensive work done a little over a year ago. I mean extensive. Every tooth in my upper mouth was worked on. I had complete reconstructive surgery. I still have the lower to do. Because I had some major health problems this year, I unfortunately have put the lowers on hold for a bit.

One suggestion I can give you is to go on antibiotics. A short course, a few days. I just don't want to take a chance of infection.

I am not one to go on antibiotics at the drop of a hat. In fact I hardly ever go on them. But this is one time I absolutely positively go on them.

So this is my suggestion. Also of course also take pain pills. Do anything to keep the pain cycle from coming on. I also do not take pain pills for my RSD. But when I do have dental work done. I request something for pain.

My PM doctor continues to preach to me....You have a "whole" body not just RSD. You must take care of it. In this vein, your teeth and mouth's health is very important. By letting their health lapse can put you into a very serious health risk. Therefore seeing a dentist every 6 months is important.

Default Surgeon

Allen with your insurance, get it in writing what hey cover. If you can get the anestesia coverd. I had to battle for that when daughter had an bad abseces tooth removed. Even after phone preapprovel, they said Opps we were wrong. So I got it in writing now.

I take a dose of antibitotics, valium, now the dentist uses a good long acting as opposed to the newer short term numbing stuff. The reason, the ensymes make me difficult to numb. Sit up a bit, don;t lay back. ALso, he mentioned something to my daughter about eferine? Also, find a dentist that has nitrous, much easier on the RSD when the body is not tensed and braced making the nerves flare up and muscles clamp down on them.

Good luck
Di

Default Dentist

Hi,
I am not sure if this link will work. If it doesn't you can go to
www.rsds.org
and do a search for dentist. Three articles come up.
I know how hard this is. I had a crown done in a molar without anesthesia
because the dentist was afraid to give me the jaw block needed to do the crown...different than just a shot of novocaine, it is an actual block.
I have spread just about everywhere but RSD did NOT spread to my jaw when I had this done.

I've also had a dentist drill into my tongue, but it was the underside of my tongue and he never told me. I sure found out when the novocaine wore off. I called him and he told me what happened.
Ouch!! http://www.rsds.org/3/treatment/index.html

I hope this site gives you some of the info you are looking for.
I'll say a prayer about your doctor situation. You have really had it rough since the angio.

Love, peace and joy to you in 2007

Hope

Hi all, they never saw me! But I did fill out all the paper work. Gotta walk in tomorrow. Im not sure if I feel up to it though, only sleeping about an hour here or there with all the withdrawal pains. I think the restless leg feeling is the worst. Drive ya right out of your mind!.

hi allen
have you been to the dentist yet?
well let me tell you..........october 2005 i started with serious, i mean SERIOUS pain on the right side of my mouth. i could feel this wasn't the tooth but i went to my dentist anyway, ''cos what could it have been if not the tooth. i mean we got teeth in our mouth dont' we LOL. it was so bad that not a drop of liquid or a crumb of food could touch that side of the mouth. i was drinking coffee, tea, water through a straw. putting little bits of food into the left side. even when the saliva built up it was horribly painful. so my dentist took x-rays and told me nothing wrong. go back a week later and he says he'll try take the nerve out to see if it would help. that didn't help so he took the nerve out of the bottom molar. that didn't help either so he sent me to the maxo facial speacialist dude who also couldn't find anything wrong. eventually all the doctors combined said that the RSD had spread to the right side of the mouth. it eventually settled but every now and again it flairs up.
now when i go to the dentist i get anaesthetic in the top and bottom whole right side of my face. because believe me if that drill so much as touches that side of my face i can hit the roof.
my dentist has suggested to me that the next time i just go under general. good idea i think, i'll just wait and see. i've had crowns done on 3 of the molars on the right side soooooooo.

Hey buddy, I just now saw your postings. I am so sorry to hear about everything you've been going through. I understand that getting into see an oral surgeon on MediCal isn't anything approaching easy. Good for you for making it happen!

If you'll excuse me, know that we are in there pulling for you.
