Default Vomiting/Fever and RSD

Had such a horrible night! I got some kind of bug and was throwing up. Boy did that put my rsd into a major flare! First, because the RSD is in my back now I could not bend to reach the toilet. When I did my back just went into spasms. Every part of my body was flaring- I just wanted it to stop. Anyone else have this experience?

Hi Deb, I'm so sorry you are sick on top of RSD. It sure puts us in a flare right off doesn't it. Not being able to bend isn't good-does your Dr. know? I probably would get a plastic container like they use in the hospital, only bigger.
I also have RSD in my neck, spine, lower back. It is hot with inflammation. I'm stretching every day. When I was in therapy 15 years ago, they gave me a stryofoam cylinder 6-8inches. I lay on top of it and roll from side to side. can feel it stretching. You might ask you Dr. if that would be good for you. I do upper and lower body stretching to keep mobile. Swimming is the best thing to do for me 86 degree water. I also benefited from massage therapy. All these things are tough, but I'm fighting to keep mobile.......I have internal RSD besides full body and Doc says inflammation is throughout.
Have you tried epson salt bath? A lot of friends on here like it , including myself.
Deb, we are all pulling for you and hope this doesn't last. This is the time of year, bugs gets passed around. Let us know how you are doing. your friend, loretta with big hugs

Deb
I had a 24 hr bug a few weeks ago and it wound up with me in the ER as i couldn't keep anything down including my meds. The spasms were awful and it seemed like it was never going to end. If you're on meds and losing those constantly, you're likely in even worse shape. try to get into the tub maybe if you can? Lukewarm water just to try to break the spasms a bit.

Good luck, really hope you feel better soon

I'm not sure why, but I get fevers very often. I get nauseous every day. I vomit between 3 and 5 days a week. So, I definately know how you are feeling. I always have a bucket with me while I am home. When I am not at home, I have puke bags I got from the hospital that fold up so u can carry them easily. As far as vomit meds go....I take Zofran, Compazine, Phenergan, & Marinol. I have to think about everything I eat & try to eat only bland foods that won't be real acidic when I throw it back up. People look at me like I'm crazy when they see me vomit & then go right back to what I was doing.

Hi Deb, It is styrofoam-just measured it-6 inches around x 4 feet long.I lay on it from back of head on down. You can feel the stretch between your shoulder blades. I have my feet on each side of cylinder and knees in the air. roll from side to side and feel the stretch. I had frozen shoulder BAD following breast surgery to remove tumor in breast and arm pit. Dr. went on vacation and arm swelled up. His partner removed lime green fluid 3 times. (meant infection) as I know now. But it was ignored and not even given anti-biotics. Sent off to rehab specialist and physical therapy -took a year. i did the massage therapy on my own and feel that really helped and also helped desensitization. I still use the foam tool and stretch in others ways dailey. I'm mobile except for one hand. It's crippled, but can use it to type and cut my food. So thankful for that.
You might call physical therapy and ask if they sell them or where you might get one. It's possible sports equipment place might have them. My physical therapy place at the hospital gave it to me to do at home.
Deb, hope the best for you. Let us know how you are doing. your friend, loretta

Hi firegirl, I am so sorry you are going thru this. What does your Dr. say?
Is it your meds? Mine is pain and certain foods. I also go for the bland foods. Am basically a vegetarian now. The fever is sometimes a sign of infection. I have internal RSD, and have a very HOT spine, groin, under arms, chest area, throat area. I'm working on getting a compounding cream from a compounding pharmacy. I'm getting the HOT spots checked out and will post when I get that done. Hope you get some rest, your friend, loretta

Pain will bring this on, as well as that 24-36 hour bug.
Get a good anti-puke medication, (I use promethazine), along with an anti diarrheal, I use just the otc, laperamide. I had a bout this AM. Had LOTS to do, (much more than my usual) and my nerves just got to me. Fortunately, these took care of it in time.

We've got to have ALL our meds in One Place!
I use a shave kit bag. No razors in there though!

RSD affects our nerves, and when we get 'excited' or worse, 'anticipated', we can really get on the treadmill to NoWhere!

And, you gotta take these meds, BEFORE, there is 'The Symptom', as soon as you feel it coming!
As anything else....

Hope you feel better!

Pete

Hi Deb,

I'm a newby and really can't give advice on anything. But the object described to you sounds exactly like what my grandkids call a noodle. Bought at Walmark or anywhere. Some are thicker than others. 5 - 6" diameter and about 4-5 ft long. Just a thought.
