I was in the ER last night with a Gb attack....
The doctor did the basic checkup including grabbing my foot and lifting my leg to check for pain. The first thing I told him was about the rsd in my right foot and ankle.. he said he was familiar with rsd. Needless to say he started to grab my bad foot and I panicked.. immediately teared up and begged him to not touch it. He basically ignored me and tried again and that time my husband raised his voice and blocked him saying "you heard my wife... don't touch her there!" My hubby is a police officer and was in uniform having left work to meet me there. the doc relented but I was already crying at that point. The thought of him just grabbing it made me panic because I dread the electrical zaps I get when its touched. Later after I calmed and the doc came back I calmly expressed to him that when a patient tells him they have rsd or crps that he needs to listen and be aware as he could make things worse both physically and emotionally for the patient. Anyone else get frustrated when having to educate doctors or when doctors don't seem to buy your condition. It wasn't till I put my feet side by side and showed him the size..Color .. and turned in nature of my foot that he really got it. |

I am sorry for the unfortunate experience you had endured at the hospital by an unthnking Doc, but "yea" for your husband for stepping up to the plate like that. While I am in the process of posting to you I recall a recent post when you felt you were haveing a meltdown. I hope you are feeling better. I don't know how you feel about meditations but I think I have one to offer you which might help. If you are interested please PM me. ![]() |

I've been there and it is extremely frustrating. The last couple times I was at the ER I was by myself so I didn't have anyone besides myself to stand up for me. Luckily...the ER docs I have had are normally very good...it's the nurses who often give me trouble. Not intentionally but they don't understand and don't always listen well. I've had several do a number on my arms with blood draws and IVs. I know it's hard when I have RSD in my whole upper body in addition to my left ankle but all I ask is that they be careful and not touch me more than necessary and definitely not to grab me at all. Sigh...it can be frustrating especially when your RSD is not the primary reason you are there.

I try to avoid the ER. I never have luck with them . even b4 RSD. they mis dx,d my hernia,s and my burst appendix, and when I went in for initial visit after this accident. I had a clot and they didn't even check. the took xrys, and then tried to pump me up with drugs. totally ignoring the black cold foot with no pulse...my last visit to ER was because of pain from RSD. they went to grab my foot but got a whole lot of air and an ear full of me. starting with uhhh r u stupid I said RSD do not touch. then had to give a brief class as to what RSD is. Im sure the dr is still clueless..
