Last year they had fires close to their place and it made it unscathed. Praying that that it makes it through this!

They have planned on retiring in Colorado for years. They went to many areas and decided on Estes Park. My mom bought the Danish Cone and stayed out there and worked in the summer. My dad went to visit once a month and continued to work for the company he owns in Michigan. When the economy tanked and they realized that retiring would be pushed back. My mom sold the store. They kept the Condo. They travel out usually once a year and keep the condo rented out.

A couple years back my dad had a dural AVM and they were at the condo. He eventually was transferred to a hospital down the mountain (in or near Aurora I think) where he had brain surgery. It was terrifying having it all happen when my sister and I were here in Michigan and they were there. I have begged them not to move because of it or at least consider somewhere not quite as remote. Colorado is beautiful and I know they love Estes Park. The pictures I've seen of the water and damage is saddening.

The devastation mother nature can do is horrible! I lived in Florida through 2 hurricane; seasons and 4 hurricanes total.

How's it going today Vrae? Hope things haven't got any worse around you. I've been watching the news reports and it reminds me of when my area was flooded really badly back in 2007 (I live in Gloucestershire in the UK) - except for the roads being actually washed away and the landslides of course It's horrible watching your own area on the news, and fretting about fresh water supplies etc and food getting through, but knowing that such a short distance away people are losing everything...

Stay safe, and I'll be hoping that the coming few days aren't as bad as they are feared.

My goodness Fbodgrl, that would be terribly frightening with what happened to your Dad and being so far away. I’m glad he’s okay now, or at least I hope that’s the case! The rains and flooding would be bad enough but the areas that have had fire damage on the mountains; well that’s just insult to injury. I can understand why they would like to retire in Estes. I grew up in Chicago and I am here to tell you that the winters are not even comparable to your area. The winters up north (Illinois, Michigan, etc.) they are brutal! A cold that comes off that lake that just cuts you to the bone. It’s not like that here, not at all. Fun fact: Colorado has more sunshine than Florida. Crazy hu? But true. I don’t think I could live next to the ocean for fear of hurricanes. Those are pretty scary! Don’t get me wrong, I love the ocean and visit as much as I can, but there are a lot of things that come with it that I’m not sure I could handle.

Hey Bram, Thanks for asking! We’ve had a bit of a reprieve from the rains but from what they are saying http://www.thedenverchannel.com/weather we have more rain on the way, it’s still not over yet. I was looking here http://www.thedenverchannel.com/traf...34-co-14-co-72 (there’s lots of video and pictures too) to try and figure out my route, to try and venture out to get meds in a few minutes. Good grief there is a ton of road closures.


You’re right about the fretting, we have bottled up a small amount of water because there for a while our water supply was coming into question, but so far we’re okay (that's not true for everyone though). Food: It usually takes a blizzard for new folks in the area to realize just how much of our food is trucked in. with all the road closures and more rain on the way, this could be the next thing they are talking about. We still have several interstates/roads closed today. I really do feel for all those who have been greatly impacted by this in one way or another. The sunshine in all this is not coming from the sky, but rather the local community banding together to help thy neighbor. That is a beautiful thing!


I sure was hurting again last night. My body KNOWS that more is coming.

We made it around the city today, but not without several negotiations along the way. Thank goodness I was able to grab my meds! Yeah! I’m so happy about that!

It was good to see some sunshine over the metro area, however the clouds have begun to roll back in now, and unfortunately some of the Front Range is covered up in storm clouds; for sure it’s raining there. <sigh> We shall see how the next couple of days pans out.

Vrae, I'm so glad you were able to get your meds. I'm sure that is a big relief for you.

Yeah it was absolutely terrifying having the stuff with my dad going on and being so far away. For the most part he is back to normal and they say it should not happen again. Occasionally he forgets words or miss uses words ( kinda like pain brain for us).
