Awww Jackie, Sad for You

So sad you have to go through the battery replacement Jackie! You would think that especially since it is SO SOON after the original implant and that the issue would come under warranty then the company would foot the entirety of making things right for you. Have you thought of visiting a Barrister to ask whether they could weigh in on this? It just seems wrong that you should have to come out of pocket at all on this battery replacement.

Prayin,

I spoke with my Consultant also. He said medically everything is perfect, no lead migration or damage to the unit. He said I wasnt to blame either that it appears to be a technical problem, which means the battery needs to be replaced. He said that he wasnt happy to have to put me through all that pain and stress again. He was very anxious though about replacing the battery as it can be susceptible to infection also the leads have to be reconnected and the danger of migration during the process. But he said that when he does do it he will put me out!!! yay!! something going my way at long last.

Hey Jackie

Good Lord, I can't believe you are having to deal with this.

I still feel like the Dr is WAY overdramatising this!
One of the first things I would ask him is "Haven't you replaced batteries BEFORE!?"
I know in this case it is way premature for you to have to be getting a battery replacement, but nonetheless, getting new batteries is something we all will face and the incision will be nothing more than what I just had done, which has been hardly anything!
It's a very EASY procedure from all that I've been taught and been told up front. And the risk of Lead MIGRATION?! How!? Your leads are all properly scarred in and the xrays showed everything is in good standing. He will only have to attach the leads at the bottom right there where the battery is. There shouldn't be ANY issue of lead migration!
I'm just a bit 'peeved' at him that he's adding to the stress of this situation by making it sound to be such a risky procedure! You need REASSUREMENT right now! NOT a scenerio painted with dread!

I'm just so very relieved that the xray ruled out anything that would indicate having to go back in to fix the leads.
The battery is a quick 'change out' and your Dr should know this!
I just want to slap him.

Since this is a 'malfunction' issue, I believe in my heart that everyone involved should be accomodating you with apologies and bending over backward to get this rectified in no time!
You've truly done everything 'right' and have been so very careful to let your leads scar in........if you end up having to pay out even ONE euro! Grrrrr....
we'll just have to send our ButtBuzz 'Crew' there to help 'set things straight'...and we'll surely be bringing torches and spears!!

Sorry to sound so 'hot headed' about this..... :o I just really feel your Dr is turning this in to an undo 'drama'. I wonder, does he tell EVERYONE who needs a new battery that they are up against such a 'risk' of this and that?
It's standard procedure to get a battery change.....only in your case, it is way too soon that you should have to be dealing with this.
I think this is more a matter of him seeing it as an 'inconvenience' on HIS part .......when in fact it is YOU who are going thru the most inconvenience! Like I said, they should be scurrying around to accomodate you and get you the new battery you need.

Caring deeply!!
Rae

Thanks you

Rae, Good to see you are back with us again and definitely back to full strength too:D I totally agree with you. He is a bit over the top. Thats the way he is in general I think. He always seems to lean towards the cons rather than the pro's.......He is VERY annoyed that the company are STILL asking questions when they know its not a medical problem. He has only ever done one replacement so far. Its relatively new here in Ireland you see and when I first went to him over 2 years ago he had only done 12 implants. Apparently with St Jude ANS System, between UK and Ireland only 140 implants have been done over the past couple of years and so far they have had 6 patients with problems. One person before me here in Ireland who lost all stimulation also plus me in Ireland and the other four in UK.

I got a call at 9am from my Rep today. She told me she got some word back from the Tech team in the States. I said 'ok'! She said they are still at a loss and have never come across this problem before. Then I had the same old questions again.......did you try bulking it out,:mad:did you try skin to paddle:mad:did you fall or bang it:mad: have you moved it around the battery:mad: She asked me to try to recharge my battery again but this time keep away from any electrical items that may be around me, about 3/4 feet or so.....SO I STOOD IN BACK GARDEN and tried it, but nope nothing, nada!!!
Then she said have you had any new equipment put into the house. Like a laptop, home cinema system......or tv!.....As it happens we did have a new tv about 6 weeks ago. Well she got so excited and said hmmmmmm maybe, but as I said to her , ok if the tv interfered with it wouldnt you expect it NOT to work both with recharging and stimulation. At this stage I just said to her, look they are clutching at straws now. She is waiting to hear back from my Doctor but she expects to be back over in Ireland for Tuesday 8th Feb as that may be the day for the exchange of batteries, which is definitely going ahead, regardless of whether the tv knocked it out or not:rolleyes: Have to say dont think thats the problem at all, ITS FAULTY! They are looking for someone to blame I suppose instead of themselves.

She also said that in relation to me paying excesses etc that it shouldnt be a problem but that she was waiting for her manager to come back to her after he has spoken with the financial department. So will see what transpires from that!!

My power is just gone now and she told me to keep some and knock it off so they can look at it when its been taken out. Well I can tell you I havent turned it off just yet because I want the most relief from it I can. But by tonight I will definitely have to get rid of it I suppose:(

ARRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!! [as he pulls his hair out]

:thud: This so sounds like the company grasping at straws to avoid risk of loss financially.:Speechless::shocked::sorry::mf_swordf ight::Demonstration::Soapbox::sad-dollar::yikes::icon_evil::Scratch-Head::icon_mad: [I know I am limited to 15 of these little buggers] Anyway, there is no way you should have to pay out of pocket for any replacement of faulty battery as it is SO NEW. Remember this word..... Barrister...... Oh how I wish I were flush with cash, admitted to practice there, and could come wallop someone a good one in court. There is such a thing as RIGHT and NOT RIGHT, and any hesitation on the part of the company to "belly up to the bar" to take care of faulty equipment expense in full a problem for me.

OK, I blew my stack, but, gee whiz, you need help to get beyond company politics to a complete solution. A solution that brings you home with your pocketbook intact.

I will climb down off of my soap box now, yielding to Rae, who is more case helpful than me right now,

Go Mark GO!!

Oh my! Now WHO could follow an act like that! Whoo Whoo!! :D
I'm actually clapping and cheering while typing this ha!

When Mark offers to take on the legal case AND uses up all the 'Fifteen Smiley Limit'.....you KNOWWWW he means BUSINESS!
This I love!
I just LOVE our BIONIC Righteous Anger when we look out for each other!

And Jackie, oh my Lord I know this is SO not funny, but the way you described standing out in your GARDEN to CHARGE your buttbuzz, I'm sorry I just couldn't help but spill out a giggle there!
I can just see you on the phone with 'Madam Genious' holding your patience in as you answer all her delightful questions.........the garden even :p

Mark, you are way cool when you get 'mad'...... yep, you nearly caused a CYBER BOOM when I you lose your lid with the smilies !! :You-Rock:

Since he used up HIS 15 limit, I'll pick up where he left off!

One of THESE --->> :deadhorsebeat::deadhorsebeat::deadhorsebeat: for every STUPID question they asked you....even trying to pin the blame on the ol' Television!

... and heck, I'll mix up a pot of my handy dandy "I-do-not-LIKE-this-situation" Stew :stirthepot: for the whole LOT of these pin-heads!
(....believe me, you don't want to know the ingredients that go IN to this!) ...

.....:ranting::plain:..... :holysheep:

Well, at LEAST these guys ARE scurrying for answers....
And on a 'serious' note here.....I sure hope you aren't going in to a bad pain flare, Jackie.....this is NOT what we signed up for!!
I think you did mention that you have some pain med ammunition on hand, so this eases my mind a bit.....but I sure hope you aren't suffering thru a bad sleepless night as I type this (it's probably about midnite there).....
My heart indeed is going out to you, as I know this truly is not a laughing matter.
I want to see this fixed sooner than soon!!

Rae

Rrae 02-01-2011 07:53 PM

......this is just tooo much!

.......I just HAVE to add how 'tickled' I get the more I picture us middle-aged adults sittin here POUNDING on all these smilies with frustrated FROWNS on our faces trying to get our points across.......

.........does anyone else see the absolute beauty of this?!

Does this count as an oxy-moron? ANGRY "Smilies" ?! :icon_eek:....:ROTFLMAO:

I beg to differ with ANYone who can prove that there is any other forum for butt-buzzers with the amount of diligence we carry in our outlook for one another's welfare!

......the councel rests your honor :p

anon21816 02-02-2011 12:48 PM

We need to smile

Rae I was laughing while I was in the back garden too:D I dont mind the banter one bit, laughing is good for us too as well as our stims;)

Had another call today from my Rep. So she got some more emails from the techy team in the States......so I was asked would I turn on my charger and try to charge for 3 mins, then off and on again for a further 3 minutes and do this for 30 mins and see if the IPG charges. Even though the orange light, it should turn green when charging, continued to beam orange! but nope nothing ........Still not charging....so now Im wondering do you think perhaps the next email might be for me to stand on my head while wiggling my toes and see if the unit charges then:confused:just a thought;)

Well Ive not further news in relation to my date for the replacement. My Rep did say she would try to contact the Consultant today/evening as he is in theatre all day. So Im hoping she gets back onto me at some stage this evening.

Mark your hired:D........thanks for your words of encouragement!!

Jackie:hug:

Mark56 02-02-2011 11:01 PM

OK, so I cooled off a bit

Well, you know, it was -20 degrees F here last night, so with the windchill factor on top of that I had a good opportunity to cool off a bit. OH, I have an idea you may not have tried...... stand in your back yard at 20 below and switch it on and off for 30 minutes or so. Now, the most likely prospect here is you will turn into an icicle and then the charging will no longer be an issue. I do hope ALL of that dreadful snow you had a while back was melted away before they had you go outdoors to try charging........

Mark56:)

Rrae 02-03-2011 01:59 AM

Jumper Cables!!

I GOT it ! :Clever: Park your CAR in the GARDEN, hook your butt-buzz up to the battery!!

........ DUH!!

WHY did we not think of this in the first place!!

anon21816 02-03-2011 10:46 AM

Well I never!!

You know what I would be lost without the words of wisdom both Rae and Mark are sharing with me :D OF COURSE I should go out in the cold....duh to me:rolleyes: AND RAE!!! how did we NOT think of this sooner............not sure if the car will actually come into my hall though, think I should maybe break down a wall and take it indoors too:D

Well a small update, I was told today that they will be replacing the battery on Tuesday 8th Feb........:rolleyes:cant wait(not!!!)
I was told by the Rep that in relation to my excesses and the company paying for them, well they will have to wait until the battery is examined and see IF there is anything wrong with it technically:eek:So Im thinking hmmmmmmm......and how will I know that their findings are correct as the battery will be long gone out of me and the country:confused:
Anyway just as well we do have some money to cover the excesses, but its not something I was planning on paying TWICE in one year for the same thing:mad:GRRRRRRRR

Mark thankfully our snow is long gone and long may it stay away. I see on our local news that America is in trouble with the amount of snow thats fallen, saw Chicago on the news and we thought we had it back:eek:
Hope you are all safe and well and that you be careful out there if you have to go out and about too.
