The "no bending, twisting, reaching, etc., is soooo very important. The scar tissued has to build up around the leads to keep them in place. The restricted movements cannot be stressed enough. If the leads should migrate and the scar tissue keeps them in a position that was not intended; could very possibly lead to an unsuccessful implant. You have come this far - do not let wanting to do things for yourself get in the way. Let others do for you when possible and "look the other way" when you see something you want to get at yourself. Thoughts and Prayers are with you!

Default Hi Sandy Kay

Hi Sandy Kay,

I've been away for a few days so I missed your update, it's good to hear you are doing okay, I too had a problem with the itching primarily because i'm allergic many of the dressing they use and my skin gets an awful rash and I need special dressing which some hospitals don't carry - have no idea why!!!

Everything that everyone has said about not stretching etc is so important, there's nothing like a shower after those stitches/staples come out, I had about 40 stitiches too and it was trying to get them out as scabs had grown over some of them.

I hope you're getting lots of looking after, pampering and basically not doing anything except some TV and a good book.

Take care hun.

Sinéad xxxx

I can't express enough to you how crucial it is to give yourself the six weeks of no bending, lifting, twisting. A great deal of patients request either back braces, for me it was a cervical collar as mine was cervical. The first six weeks are so crucial while the leads are getting scared in. No lifting more than five pounds, no lifting your hands above your head. No twisting AT ALL, no bending AT ALL. You must squat to reach anything on the floor. If you are able have an occupational therapist at the hospital you are having the procedure walk you through the correct way to do things. It was so helpful for me, as you don't realize how often you use the muscles they need you to relax. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask. I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming procedure.
What would you suggest to someone who has so much weakness in their legs that they are unable to squat and get back up again? And if a person tends to fall rather frequently would this be something that would be not recommended?

Haven't read through this entire thread, so don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but it was good suggestion from someone for me when I was going in for my implants. Do your toenails as you won't be able to bend over for quite a few weeks. Also, go to CVS and buy one or two of those pick-up grabber thingys because you'll find that all of a sudden you're dropping things more than you realize and these grabbers can pick up even the smallest thing. I got two, one for each level of my house. I still use them, even though I no longer need to. Good luck!

Fiona

Laugh Welcome Ticchick !

Ahhh yes, the reacher/grabber/picker upper thingys! I wish I were the one who patented those things!

Ticchick, what type of pain do you have? Doctors will recommend the SCS for several issues. Have you discussed your symptoms with a Dr yet? I'm interested in knowing what he/she would say in regard to your inquiry.

I'm sorry you are faced with these frustrations
It's sure good to have you, tho. You'll find plenty of support here.
I hope you'll stick around - we're always learning from one another!

Welcome aboard

Rae

Default Hi Ticchick!

Welcome to our newsy corner of the universe! My doctors all INSISTED on surgical preparatory physical therapy so strength could be optimized since surgery will take quite a bit out of a patient. Talk to your doc about physical therapy for strength development as a preparatory step. It is intended to be an aggressive help to your overall body core strength as you approach anything such as SCS.

Cheers,
Mark56

The grabber was given to me by a friend the night before surgery. I've used it so much. I never thought it would be so handy.

Another good tip. Besides having a little pampering never hurts. It's great for the spirit.
