Default Yep sounds like a muscle spasm

Fortunately for me, mine are usually not that bad. I've tried Soma, Slelaxine (I think that's how you spell it), baclofen, and Flexeril and hands down the Flexeril helps the best. Soma is a close second but is incredibly sedating. I've taken Xanax and klonopin before - for sleep - but haven't used them for muscle spasms. Interesting that I should see this question today. Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I don't know what possessed me into thinking I could sit for 4!!! hours on a dining room table chair (with a thin layer of cushioning) not on a cushioned seat or sofa. My husband could have brought my manual wheelchair in so I could at least sit on my usual cushion. I'm having tremendous spasms in my back and hips. Geez Louise are they bad! I normally take the Flexeril twice a day but can take it three times so I'm upping that, taking all the breakthrough Oxycodone I'm allowed, Ibuprofen - it's going to be a lllooonnnnggg day.

Jackie - since this is a new symptom for you I'd recommend that you see your doctor(s) and ask for a full workup. I know it's probably the last thing you want to do - go to another doctor! But, it does
sound like a serious muscle spasm and you don't want to go around having those everyday. Take care -

Heart

Thankfully I havent had any more of those 'turns' as I will call them for now!

After the second one happened I did have a soreness in my upper back when I inhaled, its nearly gone now, thankfully.

I will definitely contact my Dr and see what he thinks and if there is any relaxers he can give me, just in case!

Im shocked to think that so many of you get these all the time. I thought the pain I have with the back and legs is bad but this on top of it all is just wayyyyyyy too much!!! so hopefully these were just a blip!........

Rae you asked what could have caused this!!! well when I think back .....the second one I got was early on Wednesday morning. I had my granddaughter here and I had just taken her out of the high chair! So putting two and two together I thinkthat I may have caused that 'turn'! But I cant say for sure or rule it out. My husband and daughter have been great helping me with Cara. I generally let them do all the lifting and pulling etc. But occasionally I do get 'carried' away....and because of that I end up paying the price!!! GOSH will I EVER learn.....

Thanks for all the links....very good information in them all.....you are all so amazing and helpful

Jackie

Try eating bananas, maybe one a day. They have potassium in them and if your body is low on potassium it can cause spasms. I do this and also take flexiril daily and valium as needed. The valium as needed doesn't seem to cause any type of addiction type problems,Dr. Smith is right on this.

Smile Thanks Lisa

Well I can honestly say Im NOT deficient in potassium or at least I doubt I am if its banana's that help, because!!!!!!...............................and I blush when I admit this.......................but I eat more bananas that a family of monkeys would in a day

if you only knew!!! Im addicted to the flipping things

I panic if I dont have at least 10 bananas in the fruit bowl to last me through the day. I eat them while Im waiting for my breakfast, then snack on them when Im hungry inbetween mealsthen have another couple while waiting for my lunch......oh and while I prepare dinner...and then a couple more while I sit watching tv in the evening!!!

So.....................but thank you Lisa...I did hear that before too!

Hope you are all keeping well ....can you believe its only 23 days to CHRISTMAS

Jackie

Oh LORD how I wish my psych doctor would be on this same page! She is absolutely TABOO about this!!
My pain Dr had me on Xanax and I only used it as needed and it helped tremendously with spasms and sleep and anxiety. She is very much against Benzo's and now she's got me on all this other ridiculous stuff.

I've gotten muscle spasms of one sort or another (charley horses) all my life.

Never really thought much about it.... Usually the day after over-exerting something, or while overexerting something.... Then there are the ones that come out of nowhere....BAM! (No, mine aren't due to any deficiencies - just stupidity and craziness...)
