Fortunately for me, mine are usually not that bad. I've tried Soma, Slelaxine (I think that's how you spell it), baclofen, and Flexeril and hands down the Flexeril helps the best. Soma is a close second but is incredibly sedating. I've taken Xanax and klonopin before - for sleep - but haven't used them for muscle spasms. Interesting that I should see this question today. Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I don't know what possessed me into thinking I could sit for 4!!! hours on a dining room table chair (with a thin layer of cushioning) not on a cushioned seat or sofa. My husband could have brought my manual wheelchair in so I could at least sit on my usual cushion. I'm having tremendous spasms in my back and hips. Geez Louise are they bad! I normally take the Flexeril twice a day but can take it three times so I'm upping that, taking all the breakthrough Oxycodone I'm allowed, Ibuprofen - it's going to be a lllooonnnnggg day.
Jackie - since this is a new symptom for you I'd recommend that you see your doctor(s) and ask for a full workup. I know it's probably the last thing you want to do - go to another doctor! But, it does sound like a serious muscle spasm and you don't want to go around having those everyday. Take care - Last edited by ElizaJane23; 11-25-2011 at 12:25 PM. Reason: Removed extra text |

Thankfully I havent had any more of those 'turns' as I will call them for now!
![]() After the second one happened I did have a soreness in my upper back when I inhaled, its nearly gone now, thankfully. I will definitely contact my Dr and see what he thinks and if there is any relaxers he can give me, just in case! Im shocked to think that so many of you get these all the time ![]() Rae you asked what could have caused this!!! well when I think back .....the second one I got was early on Wednesday morning. I had my granddaughter here and I had just taken her out of the high chair! So putting two and two together I think ![]() Thanks for all the links....very good information in them all.....you are all so amazing and helpful ![]() Jackie ![]() |

Try eating bananas, maybe one a day. They have potassium in them and if your body is low on potassium it can cause spasms. I do this and also take flexiril daily and valium as needed. The valium as needed doesn't seem to cause any type of addiction type problems,Dr. Smith is right on this.

Oh LORD how I wish my psych doctor would be on this same page! She is absolutely TABOO about this!! ![]() My pain Dr had me on Xanax and I only used it as needed and it helped tremendously with spasms and sleep and anxiety. She is very much against Benzo's and now she's got me on all this other ridiculous stuff. |

I've gotten muscle spasms of one sort or another (charley horses) all my life.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charley_horse Never really thought much about it.... Usually the day after over-exerting something, or while overexerting something.... Then there are the ones that come out of nowhere....BAM! ![]() ![]() Doc
