Survived round 1 of the storms (or maybe that was round 2) without any damage. Round 2 (or 3??) will be hitting later on today. The weather here is usually pretty mild so it was weird to have all these warnings at once - blizzard, tornado watch, and hurricane winds. Winds were up to 73 mph by DD18s dorm.:eek: Flooding is normal for us during monsoons but the other stuff . . .:eek:

Sandy - Dorothy & Toto never flew by the window. But lots of other debris did. Of course, as the afternoon progressed along with the strong winds, I didn't let DBF's cat out as I thought for sure that tiny little thing would get blown away in to the neighbors yard or beyond.

Fin - Good luck in the tube. Hope it all goes well.

Sarah - Good luck to you in the tube as well. I too am surprised they have never done an MRI of your spine. Maybe it will reveal the source of many of you issues.

Debbie - :hug: Some times going to a therapist really helps. I did that for a few months and it really helped me get a better perspective on things as well as learning to look at things in a different way. It was good. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Kelly - LOL. There's always next time.:D

Hi everyone else! Hope you all have a great day!:hug::grouphug:

Today is laundry (1 load) and homework day.

barb02 01-22-2010 11:39 AM

TGIF!!!

Kelly, I just remembered after reading your post that I forgot to put out the garbage too.:o You can send all of your sun up here. I am so tired of dreary, cloudy weather.

Jenn and Sarah -- Hope the tests go well and you get some answers.

Debbie -- :hug:

Tricia, Glad you survived the storms. Be careful!

I have one more class to go, and then I am free for the weekend. I may go see Leap Year. It is a Five Buck movie.

FinLady 01-22-2010 12:45 PM

Trish, stay safe!

Debbie, uber :hug::hug:

Sandy, glad your mom fixed her own dinner. Totally agree that's a major step in the right direction. :)

Everyone, :hug::hug:

~~~~~~
Got the MRI clothes on - LOL. Sweat pants, comfy shirt, etc. :) Just resting for a bit before I take off into the wild blue yonder. :)
TwoKidsTwoCats 01-22-2010 02:12 PM
I've been watching the news about all the nasty weather and mud slides in CA! Can not believe I was seeing snow in the Mojave desert area! We had a tornado in the east part of Huntsville last night. It was just last week we were freezing at 6 degrees!
Jen and Sarah , I hope you both get some answers from these MRIs. :hug:
:grouphug: to everyone! Hope ya'll have a good weekend.
Debbie D 01-22-2010 02:30 PM
All of this weird weather...I know it's El Nino, but still...if puppies and kitties start falling from the sky, I'm getting my old rosary out;)
Thanks for all the:hug:. After I wrote the "depression" post, I opened up my email...there was a daily affirmation from Unity Church I get every day that addressed what I'm going through...then I opened a message from someone who works with people to make them conscious of their life path...and it totally synced with issues in my life at this time.
I totally believe that if you send a prayer, thought, intention, whatever you want to call it, out to God, the Universe, whatever, that if your heart is open, you will get a message, advice, etc from that source. It might not give you a clear direction, but it might give clarity...and makes you feel as if you're not walking on your journey alone.
Part of depression with MS is that both feed on each other. The MS causes depression, and the challenge of dealing with symptoms, and limitations caused by MS also can cause depression.
So, what is an MS patient to do? Curl up in bed and not get up? That's certainly what I feel like doing. But then I lose...and my loved ones lose.
So, you find help...a therapist, your doctor, your spouse, kids, friends, whatever it takes, I guess. It can be so easy to just shut the door and stay cooped up...it's how I've dealt with this before. But I am unwilling to waste my life this way. Not anymore.
Thank you all for your support, your empathy, and your information...you're all so special...
Now...about forgetting to put out the trash...stick a Post-It reminder on your mirror the night before it needs to go out...whatever works!:p
SandyC 01-22-2010 06:08 PM
Well, I called senior services and talked with the director. We came up with ideas to get mom active like volunteering in the kitchen and the rummage sale, etc. I was so excited and was set up to take her in Wednesday. Mom came home with Chris (they were out at the store) and I told her all about it. She did not like the idea and asked me why I was forcing her to do this. So, guess that's out. She says she doesn't know anyone. :rolleyes: In a way I get that but how is she to meet others if she doesn't get out? I give up.
ewizabeth 01-22-2010 09:12 PM
Hi Everybody! :) I made it home to family and kitty cats. Sometime I need to post the pics of Daisy and Rocky from the past week. They are cute as two bugs in a rug. :D
They cuddle together regularly now and on DH's lap together as well. :D I hugged them when I got home and they had a better week as well, hardly missed me at all.
I work tomorrow morning 7:30 to 9:30 for some extra training then have off until Monday.
I love this company and this is almost like a dream come true. :) I learned a lot this week again. :) They told us that only 3% get hired out of those who apply so I feel especially fortunate for that.
It will be hard work but worth it since they are so good to us. I feel like God has blessed me in this but also with my friends and family. :grouphug: :circlelove:
barb02 01-23-2010 09:47 AM
Good morning! another cloudy, rainy day. They say we may see the sun on Tuesday. I wonder if we will be able to recognize it.:D
I need to run a few errands this morning, and then this afternoon going to a matinee of Leap Year and out to dinner.
I tried to donate money last night for Haiti relief and first the computers were down (too many calls), and then I could not get through. "All circuits are busy." I hope that means they raised alot of money. I think they should have asked the folks from American Idol how to set up their phone banks and computers; And the computer site, said to call in:rolleyes: I gave up and will send a check today the local Newman Center which is collecting donations for Haiti.
Kitty 01-23-2010 10:52 AM
Barb, I think alot of people were calling in to see which celebrity they'd get to talk to! I saw Julia Roberts talking to someone and also Steven Speilberg.
I give everytime I go to the store. They round up your total or add whatever amount you tell them to. Even Rite Aid is doing this......I thought it was just the grocery stores. I just round up and then give whatever amount I had in coupons. Last time it was close to $16. That's alot for me. I know it's just a drop in the bucket compared to what those poor people need but if everyone does it they'll benefit.
It's cloudy, windy and very cool here today. We're supposed to get major storms tomorrow with 2-3 inches of rain expected. Pam, you'll get it before we do. I see you had a tornado close to Huntsville. We had one in west GA yesterday. It was about 50 miles west of where I live so it didn't affect me but it was strange to see a tornado warning in January!
Nothing planned for today except maybe a nap this afternoon. I was up and down all night. I really don't expect to ever sleep through the night. I haven't in years. I think I've become too accustomed to be able to nap during the day.....but I have nothing better to do so I'm not going to worry about it. I worked for many years.....I guess by now I deserve to be able to nap when I feel like it! :o
Washer just stopped so I'm off to transfer clothes to the dryer. Don't know how I manage such an exciting life! :rolleyes:
:grouphug: to everyone and have a good weekend!
SandyC 01-23-2010 11:18 AM
Barb, you can donate through your cell phone too. Text: "GIVE" to the number 50555.
Here's the website detailing ways to donate. We did it through our cell. https://www.hopeforhaitinow.org/FAQ.asp
My Update: Nothing much. I am going to clean the linen closet out today. Everytime I open it to take something out things fall to the ground. Yep, it's time. hahaha
Have a good day everyone. :grouphug:
Kitty 01-23-2010 04:25 PM
Cloudy, dreary day here today. DS and his gf have gone out for the day and have plans to meet friends tonight. I have my jammies on and I'm watching Urban Cowboy for the millionth time on CMT. I just love this movie.....it's the music.
I was surprised to have access to this channel after I downgraded my cable service. I found it by accident but glad I know now where it is!
I think it's a good night for soup!
SandyC 01-23-2010 05:43 PM
Kitty, we must be twins! Last time we were watching Urban Cowboy together hundreds of miles away! I taped mine and watch it over and over, right now too. lol
barb02 01-23-2010 08:53 PM
Leap year was predictable, cute, and a bit cheesey. Scenery was beautiful. I love Ireland.
We should start a fan club, Sandy!! :cool:
Debbie D 01-23-2010 10:02 PM
Barb,
did you like PS I love You? The scenes of Ireland made my heart sing...
DH & I went to a kitchen remodeling seminar...got a lot of ideas & info as to how to go about it.
We need to make a major decision as to whether or not we need to move due to my increasing difficulty in walking, ESP the stairs. It absolutely breaks my heart to think of moving. I had hoped to wait 'til my inlaws had passed & DH had retired before thinking of moving.
It's just getting so difficult to do the stairs & even to do any basic cleaning...I feel useless.
ewizabeth 01-23-2010 11:38 PM
:circlelove:http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/post613719-52.html
Here's a pic of the babies snoozing together. They love each other so much... :)
barb02 01-24-2010 09:27 AM
debbie, Yes I loved PS, I Love You. Antoer good one (both movie and scenery) was Cicle of Friends. They actually showed this movie on the plane when I flew to Ireland. I would love to go back there someday. I just don't know if I could handle it.
tkrik 01-24-2010 10:23 AM
Good morning all!
Barb & Deb - I did like PS I Love You but I watched it right after my brother passed away from a brain tumor. All I could think about was what my SIL and the kids were going through at that time. If it wasn't for the funny things, I would have left. I was in major tears during the movie. Now that it's been a couple of years, I'd like to see it again.
Wiz - I am so glad you are enjoying your new job. It is so wonderful when we find something that we really love doing and enjoy. I know you will do well. :hug: I'll have to check out your fur babies. I am sure they are adorable.
Kelly & Sandy - Urban Cowboy??? LOL I haven't thought or heard about that movie in a long time. I may have to rent it now and watch it again. DBF did a Sopranos marathon this weekend. He started with Season 1 again and is now up to Season 2. Not sure how far he got last night as I went to bed. So, no chick flicks this weekend. LOL
Hi to everyone else. Thinking of you as well.
Not sure what I am going to do today. I may work in the yard a bit and do some weeding. With all this rain that we had the ground is so soft and it makes it so much easier to pull the weeds out. I was going to do it yesterday but it started to rain again.
Have a great day everyone!:hug::grouphug:
sabimax 01-24-2010 10:31 AM
Good morning all,
I woke to try to head to church, but rainy icey out there, and my back and body feeling the weather... I did start with some yoga... felt good.. but then not much time to get ready for church. Everyone else is sleeping in as they played games and hung out with dad late night... 1am I think.
I called my mom to see if htey were going, then I would book it and get dressed but they were not going due to the dreary weather... so I did not rush and go.. I am eating a yogurt and a clementine. Having my coffee and doing some reading here. RElaxing...
Might be heading to a movie with hubby and our 10 year old daughter, the tooth fairy one... then of course watching FOOTBALL all afternoon!! LOVE football.
It is a cogfog, feeling blah kind of day as the weather is suppose to stick here for the day I think.
coffee is ever so good... WAKE up all and start brewing some!!
hugssssss, and hoping all are feeling well today, sarah
barb02 01-24-2010 12:20 PM
It was sunny here this morning for about ten minutes; had really heavy rain last night. Just staying home today, doing some chores, and reading.
Kitty 01-24-2010 12:28 PM
We're waiting for the impending doom here.......they keep saying severe, heavy thunderstorms are on their way. It will probably be later in the afternoon that we see them. Good sleeping weather. Update: they just issued a tornado watch until 6 PM tonight for the entire metro area. It's very windy here now. I may turn off my PC if it gets bad.
Someone's home alarm has been going off since about 10 AM here. It's not that close to my house but I can hear it loud and clear. Not sure why it doesn't go off or someone doesn't shut it off. I'd sure hate to live next door or across the street from that house. This isn't the first time it's done this.....if it's the same house. I've heard it before.
Everyone stay safe today. The weather map looks like it's a rainy day for most of us.
TwoKidsTwoCats 01-24-2010 03:03 PM
:) Sarah, that's what I forgot this morning...coffee! DH has been out of town for two weeks and gets back this afternoon. He usually makes the coffee on the weekends.
Kelly, those storms hit us about 2:30 this morning. I was up until it calmed somewhat around 5:45. We had high winds most of the night. A little lightening, but not as much as I thought it would be. Thankfully the roof is still on and no trees down! The creeks are all running high and a couple of duck ponds in one neighborhood are overflowing. THey had us under flashflood warnings most of the night.
Hopefully the sun will peep out sometime tomorrow. :)
barb02 01-24-2010 04:20 PM
My 81 year old mother just requested I be her friend on FB. :eek::D My brother got her a new computer for xmas and internet service, and she finally got it hooked up today. He put her on FB so she could see all of the pictures. She had dial up service on her old computer, and is amazed by how fast this one is. She just called me to tell me that she can watch tv shows that she has missed, and are they close caption:rolleyes:. I actually had no idea.
Just cleaned out a kitchen cupboard that had plastic containers and threw away 9 lids that had no matching containers. How does that happen?
Don't do it! I put my mom on and now I have to be careful what I say. LOL
Debbie D 01-24-2010 06:40 PM
Hee hee...guess that's one benefit of having in laws who are terrified of computers...
My koi are swimming around in the pond:eek: We're supposed to have temps in the teens for highs later this week. I told them, "Go back to sleep, fishies!"
DH finished painting my study...had to repaint where he'd filled the holes DD had put in to hang her pictures...it looks really good. It's a kind of teal-green-blue...I was going to get wooden blinds, but the white blinds my DD had in there contrast nicely against the walls. I can't wait to get my room back to normal. DH took off the 30 yr. old baseboard and bought new stuff...he still has to stain and varnish it, but I'm still going to put the room back, as he's not too quick to get things done:rolleyes: Love him to death anyway...
Legs have been acting up this weekend...I just have a hard time understanding this...they were in so much pain from about mid-Sept to around Christmas. I've had a month of tightness, but little pain. Now the pain has ramped up again. I'm hoping that it's because I was busy this weekend, and not another uptick in pain...is this maybe a flare-type situation?
Hope all of you in the line of severe weather are safe...be careful!
Have a wonderful Sunday evening, all!:)
JustWeave 01-24-2010 07:08 PM
I returned a few hours ago from my fantastic, weekend long, craft retreat. I knit a whole shawl while I was there. It is stunning and mine, mine, mine.
*deleted whine*
Vonn07 01-24-2010 07:29 PM
Weave ... shawls and crocheted tops are BACK IN ACTION!!! I picked up some very nice tops at Goodwill the other day! and with the cami's or tanks underneath, wow-za!!
so, when will we see a pix of your awesome shawl???? :D
Sandy & Barb ... that's too funny about 'watching what you say on FB' ... ah, get them into Farmville ... and they'll be sucked in to that realm!!
TwoKidsTwoCats 01-24-2010 09:14 PM
My big accomplishment for the day, sewing two buttons back on a coat. Even got the needle threaded on the first try!:p
Our weather has sort of settled down. At least I'll sleep tonight.
Weave, I crochet and made a shawl for me before Christmas. It is mostly for wearing around the house and keeping me warm. I bought some yarn to make one to wear out and about. I want to make some for gifts this year.
FinLady 01-25-2010 09:25 AM
Morning all! :) Trying to wake up. MRI went ok, except for trying to resist the urge to sing along to a good song that got piped through the headphones. Had the contrast needled into a vein I've never had them do before. Still near the elbow, but not the one they usually try. The guy and I were laughing about my being a hard stick (on their chart now, lol), and he said that was the only one that wasn't hiding from him.
Did the uber relax time this weekend. Friday night hubby and I went out to dinner. Then we went to the bookstore and stocked up on supplies that we read through this weekend. We also have a trade off of books with a couple of friends of ours, so maybe later this week we'll set up a time to exchange again. :)
And my slow change in routine has finally paid off in weight loss! 5 pounds in two weeks! :) Just from trying to move more, eat more veggies, and drink a glass or two of water a day. :)
Stay safe and take care everyone! :grouphug::grouphug:
JustWeave 01-25-2010 09:55 AM
Mornin' all. Today's forecast is pouring rain and very windy. Kinda mirrors my mood.
Vonn and TwoKids- I'd post a pic but I can't right now. The shawl is in dark muted shades of fall with a thread of metallic copper running through it. I fell in love with the yarn a few years ago and bought the only skien they had. It turned out to be just enough for a small warm shawl. It is time to craft a few things for myself instead of some unknown buyer.
Gave myself the planned, returned from a weekend of fun lecture, so it is time to get cracking. I'm sick of not being able to jump when opportunity knocks.
Have a good one. Stay warm and dry.
Kitty 01-25-2010 10:00 AM
Sunny day here today. Quite a contrast to yesterday.
DS26 has today off so he is stopping by for a visit later. He just called and asked if I felt like going out to lunch. Guess I'd better start getting ready! It takes me a good two hours, ya know! :o
Both cats have claimed their spots in the window in the sun. Gracie is happily snoring away. I kept hearing her but just realized what it is. :rolleyes: I think she has sleep apnea. Can cats have that?
:grouphug: Ya'll have a good Monday!
SandyC 01-25-2010 10:14 AM
Morning all! Back to cold weather. Blech! Jim and I are heading out to a hotel tonight. He has an early appointment at the VA. Mom is staying here but Chris will be here too. I think she's a little nervous but she'll be fine. We are looking forward to the time alone. hahaha
Hope everyone is having a good Monday! :hug:
soxmom 01-25-2010 12:24 PM
good monday afternoon folks!
Kel...we have your weather from yesterday today! Its raining soooo
hard and it is so windy.
sandy...safe travels to you and Jim.:hug:
weav...Im so happy you had a nice time. Yay!
fin...woohoo! 5 pounds! :D Right now Im just happy my weight is stable.
This back/hip thing is really keeping me from moving around much.
tktc and deb...feel better ladies!:hug:
barb...I bet your mom is going to have a lot of fun with her computer!
tricia, vonn, sarah, holly, wiz, moo and everyone have a great Monday!
I am having a slow day today. Just getting done what I have to.
Last night we had freezing rain in our area. My ds and girlfriend had
an accident on the icy roads. They were okay...he was going slow so
that helped everything . It looks like only body damage(quite a bit though)
so we are praying its not totaled. We just cant afford another car right
now.:(
Well, gotta go get my fresh baked bread out of the oven as the timer
is making me crazy!lol.
Have a wonderful week everyone!:grouphug:
TwoKidsTwoCats 01-25-2010 12:49 PM
Good morning! The sun is trying to peep through the clouds here. It is still quite cool at 37.
I still didn't sleep well last night. It started raining again about midnight. Usually I don't hear it, but last night I heard every drop and a noisy gutter next to the bedroom was rattling! The strap at the bottom has come loose so that gets fixed today!!
Sox, glad the son and GF are ok!
Kelly, one of our cats snored. She was bad...kept me awake if she slept in our room. Last year after she had the infected teeth removed, she doesn't snore anymore.
Weave, my shawl is huge...22x72 ! I used a prayer shawl pattern and 6 3oz skeins. I want to make a smaller cape style that I can fasten at the neck and not have to hold on to keep it around me. I love to crochet, but lately my left hand will cramp up and fingers go every which way. I may have to look into finding one of those knitting looms and try that.
:grouphug: to all. Stay safe in this wild changing weather we have going on!!
barb02 01-25-2010 03:02 PM
Two nights with barely any sleep:mad:. I seem to go through this every few weeks. It is cold, windy, and snowing here. Brrr! I am done with my classes for the day, and going to go rest my eyes for awhile. My poor mom has already forgotten how to get to her email and the internet. "Too many passwords and it all looks so different from her last computer!" She told me she thought she had written everything down. Hopefully, my older sister can help her this evening.
tkrik 01-25-2010 07:45 PM
Sox - I am so glad to hear that DS and his gf are ok.:hug:
Sandy - Enjoy your alone time with Jim. You guys need that.:hug:
Barb - Sorry you aren't sleeping well. Hopefully tonight you will crash and get a good nights sleep.
Weave - I am glad you had a good time at your craft retreat. What a wonderful way to get away for a while.
TKTC - Our rain has stopped for now. Phew! It is supposed to come back by the middle to the end of this week.
Kelly - Cat apnea? LMAO!!! Too funny. Never heard of that or a cat snore. A dog . . .well, that is a different story.
Hi everyone else!!:hug:
Getting ready to head out to pick up my prescription and then come home, put my pjs on, and watch Castle. Do any of you watch that? It's on ABC. The guy just cracks me up and is just too cute. I am a die hard fan now and watch it every Monday. If I happen to miss a show, like last week, I watch it online.
Have a great night everyone!:hug::grouphug:
Debbie D 01-25-2010 08:54 PM
Good evening, all...winter has returned...snow on the patio. Glad I cleaned up the doggie stuff in the yard yesterday...:o
Kelly...what is this thing...sun?:confused: cats...sleep apnea...hmmm.
Weave, glad you enjoyed your retreat...
Barb,:hug:
Sandy...enjoy your alone time...together...
I woke up with little red dots on my hand, which spread to my forearm and fingers...of course I looked it up on line. I had had the same thing after my surgery in November...
anyway, when it started to spread from my hand to the fingers, I called the doc's office...they told me to come in today. When she saw it, she was concerned enough to send me to get blood tests and clotting tests. We talked about how the MS has affected my brain (bad neuropsych test and atrophy on the MRI), and how walking/painful spasms getting worse...she empathized and we also discussed how to deal with the pain from spasms. She told me there are many drugs to control pain; I said I heard that MJ works well, and that I worried about the addictive problems pain killers posed. We agreed that I would talk to the neuro about it at the next appt.
So I went to lab; three...count 'em three sticks, 'cause the lab techie didn't fill the right tubes. Then the bleeding test. After about 5 min she said it stopped, but when I got home, the spot was still seeping...whatever.
So, I'm enjoying some wine and some veggies and low-fat dip...trying very hard to eat right...Jenn, way to go about the weight loss...it's so difficult to lose, esp when you are limited by this disease. I lost a couple of pounds last week, but it's day to day...as is everything challenging in life, no?
Have a wonderful evening, all...love ya!!:)
ewizabeth 01-25-2010 10:06 PM
Hi everybody! :) :grouphug:
I just got home from my in-store training day and have four more days of training in the 'burbs. Starting next week I'll be full time in the store but still technically in training.
I have to get up at 5am and hit the road by 6:15 so until tomorrow night sometime... :grouphug: :grouphug:
SandyC 01-26-2010 07:45 AM
Morning all! Up and getting ready to head to the hospital for Jim's appointments. He's seeing the dentist and getting botox, then home to warm up! I thought I was going to freeze getting the stuff out of the car last night at the hotel. The wind was so strong it knocked over a huge garbage can right by me. Scared the poopy out of me!
Debbie, a bleeding time test, if it stopped bleeding completely should be accurate. Did it bleed right away or long after you came home? It's possible blood flow caused it to bleed again but it really depends on when it started after the test. I was never a fan of the bleeding time test when I was a phlebotomist. I preferred the coag venus testing much more because sometimes it's possible to hit a surface vein on the forearm. Let us know what the doctor says. :hug:
Have a good day everyone. I'll post later when we get home.
