I'll bet I still have some somewhere. Mom had a few left when they stopped doing that, and she saved them in case it started up again.

Kitty 11-11-2008 06:17 AM

B2Y...I remember sitting at our kitchen table with my Mom and pasting stamps into the little books. And looking at the catalog and deciding what we'd save up for. Such good times....nothing exciting or earth shattering....just fun in a much simpler time. Wish I could go back!

yeahbut 11-11-2008 07:00 AM

Kelly & B2U, I have the same memory! Sitting at the kitchen table putting all those stamps in the books and then begging mom to buy something for me!

B2U - I have you have a wonderful day off today!

Frank - get some rest!

Kay - I hope you don't over doing it today!

My Update,

I am heading to class - brrrr it is cold this morning! The dogs don't even want to go out to do their duties!

Didn't sleep well last so hopefully I can come home and have a nap before my second class.

Everyone have a great day! :grouphug:

Kitty 11-11-2008 08:13 AM

Don't overdo it, Char! And stay warm!

I'm meeting a friend for lunch today......yes, it's a guy but we're just friends and haven't gotten together in a very long time. Gotta catch up on all the dirt!! No, not really but I am looking forward to seeing him again.

Fin, I'm going to try your Chicken and Dumplings recipe. I won't even attempt to make my MIL's recipe anymore. Does anyone here watch Everybody Loves Raymond? Raymond's mom is my MIL.....nuf said! Too bad she decided to cut us all out of her life. She's the one missing out....not us. :Dunno:

The post office is closed today...wonder if the banks are, too. Is it a school holiday? I'm so out of touch!!

Ya'll have a great day. I'm full of energy this morning so I'm taking advantage of it! :grouphug:

soxmom 11-11-2008 08:22 AM

:hug:Thanks to all the vets out there. :hug:s to their families too.

Kelly........have fun today. Its Veterans Day today in Mass.(not sure
if the rest of the country celebrates?:o)

Char........classes today?? all the colleges are closed around here.
no break for you??:(

Frank........get some sleep you sillyhead.

MY UPDATE: kids are off of school today. My dd9 is marching in
the Veterans Day parade so we will be attending the parade at 11am.

Then who know.............its always a whirlwind when the kiddos are
home.:) but no organized activities due to the holiday.

Everyone go out and have a super day!!!!

tkrik 11-11-2008 08:53 AM

Kay - I hope you have a good day at the market.

Char - The weather isn't too bad here. I think it is in the 40's now and is supposed to go up to the low 70's. Beautiful day! I hope you are able to rest between classes too.

Kelly - Have a great time at your lunch today. That sounds like so much fun.

Frank - Up since 2:30??? Oh my goodness! I confess, I am a sleepaholic. Once the 2 Neurontin kick in, I'm out for the night. I hope you get a chance to get a good nap in today.

Sox - Kids are out of school today here too. I had dinner at my brothers last night and the kids where all excited when my DB told them they didn't have school the next day. Enjoy your day with them.

Vonn - Your quilts are so beautiful. Have you considered selling your quilts on e-bay? It may give you some extra income while you are waiting for SSDI.

Sandy - Still praying for you all.

Green Stamp People - If I remember correctly, you could also use the stamps for discounts in some of the grocery stores. It seems to me my mom used them a lot to help save on groceries. With 12 mouths to feed, she did what she could to save money and I'm pretty sure she used the stamps at stores that were giving discounts using the stamps. I'll have to ask her.

Sarah - Keeping you all in my prayers. It will take your parents some time to adjust and grieve. It has been a little over a year since my oldest brother passed away and my parents still get teary eyed when talking about him. My mom is doing better than she was but she still grieves.

Additionally, I myself am still grieving. My brother was very well liked not only by those in his community but his employment as well. People from all over (including internationally) either came to the wake/funeral or wrote letters. Anyhow, the wake that was only supposed to be 4 hours turned in to over 6 hours as well over 500 people came (the guest book only had 500 places for people to sign). My SIL had made a CD or something of all of his favorite songs on it that was played over and over during the 6+ hours. I tear up every time I hear one of those songs. I know that some day I will be able to listen to "Let It Be" by the Beatles and not cry and find peace in the song. But for now, I still can't listen to that song.

Hi everyone else!!! I hope you all have a great day!:grouphug:

Update: DD18 starts school today!!! She has her orientation this morning and then she is on her way. I am so excited for her.

Also, DD17 comes home today. Yeah! I miss her! She went to the mountains with her Pom Line group. It snowed up there so please pray they all have a safe trip home today.

Not sure what I am going to do today other than make DD17 black beans and rice. She loves the way I make them and it is one of her favorite meals.

Oh and I need to clean under the bathroom sinks as sometime soon the maintenance lady will be coming to install the new faucets.

FinLady 11-11-2008 09:54 AM

Morning all. :)

Really tired this morn, so begging my usual morning cup of joe to get me up and running.

Happy veteran's day to all the vets out there, and thank you. Days like this make me a little sad. My grandfather was a vet from WWII, and we have his flag in a display case over our mantle. I was fortunate that I got to know him better before he passed away.

Hope everyone has a good day today. :grouphug:

weegot5kiz 11-11-2008 10:09 AM

JustWeave 11-11-2008 10:27 AM

Just popping in long enough to say thank you to all our veterans.

I am keeping tabs on everyone here. Like a bad penny I will return eventually. :p Home life is quiet for now. I think I have too many craft irons in the fire at the moment. It is an excuse to stall. :o

Back to lurking, getting priorities in order, and gittin' something done I don't wanna do. :o

Vonn07 11-11-2008 10:42 AM

thanks, Tricia ... but the kid's quilts will eventually be given to a child dealing with a disability ...

going to put a website together ... still working on rapping it around my head as to how to do it ...

going to sell my artwork, greeting/notecards, other quilted items (including quilts) ...

all will work together!! thanks!!

SandyC 11-11-2008 11:44 AM

Good morning everyone. I see your all busy busy once again. lol Mom is doing better and anxious to get home so that's a good sign. Nik's hanging in there and appears to have a mild form of mono which is also a good sign. Jim is doing well and is much better off the Sinemet and the valium seems to be working much better.

Thank you from Jim for the veteran's day wishes! We're going to hang around the house today and chill. Well, he will, I'll be cleaning. haha

I hope everyone has a good day and stays warm and healthy. Sheesh, not to long ago we were saying stay cool and healthy. lol

We're going out Thursday to get some groceries and see my cousin. It will be in the 50's whoohoo! Take care everyone and stay healthy. :grouphug:

S&H, thanks. Now I have the Brady Bunch in my head.

for those of you who were concerned...

Gandalf's got his GROOVE back!!

he successfully drove off his rival Connor, and mated with Gwynneth this morning!

and hey, I was right, right, right!

hubby said it was too *EARLY* and they wouldn't start until December or January... but I watch my geese carefully, and I knew they were choosing up sides.

and one hour ago, I heard... the NOISE...

that special triumphant trumpeting that Gandalf uses to let the world know he got some.

this is so exciting, and in a month or two, we'll have little goslings to feed and play with again!

:grouphug::D:grouphug:

here's hoping for a nice big batch of eggs!

:D

Vonn07 11-11-2008 12:42 PM

Kay - darling ..

you ARE writing a book about your farm episodes in Belize?? use a pseudo name to publish ... and make millions!! $$$

I'd buy one to read to the kids!!

Blessings2You 11-11-2008 12:45 PM

Today is my daughter's birthday, so I called her at 11:11 to wish her a happy one. Then we had cheddar wursts in buns for lunch.

Now I have cookies in the oven to send to my granddaughter at college. Peanut butter swirl bars. Mmm, mmm.

yeahbut 11-11-2008 01:01 PM

Oh My it is cold here in Maine today! Hasn't even hit 40 yet, 39 but not 40!

Happy Veteran's Day everyone, thank you for your service for those who have!

Class was good this morning, I am actually enjoying it. Now I need to do some homework for my class tonight.

Have a good afternoon!

Don't all men do that?? :Dunno:

Kitty 11-11-2008 01:32 PM

Well, just got back from lunch with my friend. It was fun....didn't get to visit for long since he was in between appointments and had to be across town by 1:30 PM. I had a big bowl of the best chicken noodle soup I think I have ever had and a spinach salad with bacon, tomato and hard boiled egg. It was so yummy! And I didn't even have to pay!! Darn...I should have gotten the steak! :p

I just put a sirloin tip roast in the crock pot and put a big pot of green beans on to simmer. I haven't really cooked in several days and I feel guilty. Now watch......nobody will be home for dinner!!

I think I will go take a nap. I was pretty busy yesterday and then again today. Don't want to crash and burn.

Overnight my right leg and arm kept feeling numbish...if I wasnt having this crap for 8 years...I might have thought stroke was happening...either way I woke still numbish...I can use them..but my leg is weak feeling...and at work...I didnt feel I would handle working thru lunch rush...without being more with it...my words were off too.....so I covered me....too bad I dont have sick pay days:(....oh well health is more important then money right...

well also my mind has wondered about all the things I would LOVE to get done around the house...have let things pile up so long...clothes to go thru and sort sizes of kids...for the little ones....my bedroom is clutter mess...dust room....

and my body needs to be better in shape...just overall feeling like I am letting go of me...just to get to and from work...and tired of this..thinking maybe if start some yoga..or walking...maybe it will help me with more energy....just dragging and living unhealthy eating..and such....not enough time in a day to do the things that I WANT to do....time with kids..etc..

ok gotta go...rest some..then sort thru some clothes...just tired of feeling so old when so young!!!! limping around...and not enjoying life....or not having enough time to enjoy life...blahhhh sorry...

Happy Veteran's Day to all who were/are in the service...

Frank, your flags brought back a really funny memory...my DD, back when she was about 13 or so, was watching VH1 or MTV with me, no, it was The Real World...
anyway, she saw a girl with a POW-MIA shirt on...she asked me, "Who's Powmeeuh?"
The girl didn't have a clue...so I told her what POW-MIA stood for...sheesh...

I can remember when she was around 16, and I was listening to her girlfriends and her playing Catchphrase, where you give a clue to a word to your team and they have to guess it...
anyway, one of her teammates gives this clue, "It was a war in the sixties..."
my DD guessed, "World War II?"
so much for getting a good education...how she got a 3.99 in college, I'll never know...and now she teaches math, no less!

SandyC 11-11-2008 02:11 PM

(((((Sarah)))))

barb02 11-11-2008 02:47 PM

Sarah, Sorry you are having such a bad day. Stress can can make all of your symptoms worse.

Kelly, Your lunch sounds good. I had chicken and rice soup from our local Thai restaurant. I have enough left over for lunch tomorrow

I am supposed to be at my neuro's office for my 6th month appointment, but they called and canceled this morning. They said he was stuck in Colorado because of snow. I checked the weather channel site and they did not show any snow or delays in Denver or Colorado Spring airports. Hmmm. Not that I don't believe him. Now I have to wait longer to hear the results of my MRI. They said they could not schedule any new appointments until they know when he is coming back. Since it is getting closer to the end of the semester, it will be hard for me to get to his office. Plus it usually takes months to get an appointment with him. I asked if he could call me at least when he gets backs to go over my results. I was all ready to have the LDN discussion with him today.

I think I will go take a nap.

tkrik 11-11-2008 04:18 PM

Sarah - I hope your day goes better.

Barb - Sorry to hear about your trouble with the neuro. Hopefully you will be able to get an appointment sooner than a few months.

Kelly - Glad your lunch went well. You lunch and your dinner sound so good!!! We're having red beans and rice.:o DD17 loves them and since she has been away since Friday morning that is what I am going to make as a special homecoming dinner.

Debbie D 11-11-2008 04:24 PM

Sarah,
You seem to be in a true funk...((((Sarah)))).

Wish I could be there to help you...know that we all care about you...

weegot5kiz 11-11-2008 04:33 PM

FinLady 11-11-2008 07:28 PM

Kay, I agree with the others about writing a book about your farm adventures. :)

Not much to update today. Been a slug day here with a couple of naps. Did manage to make chili for dinner, tho. :)

DM 11-11-2008 07:29 PM

Hello all~ Well, I had my Rheumy appt today and he changed a med and upped another. Hope it does some good. He wants to see my next scan and may put me on daily injections. OY!

It's rainy and cold here and the Dr said if I really want to feel better, I should move to Arizona. I really like him, but told him I wasn't paying him to do ''stand up''. He laughed!

I still feel lousy, but tomorrow is another day.

Then tomorrow DH and I have check ups w/the gastro. OY again!

Kay~ So funny about Gandolf. I am getting a mental pic that is burned in my HAID now! So glad the old boy got some. too funny! You ka rack me up woman!

To all our Veteran's~ I salute you and thank you so much for your service. I called my older brothers today to thank them, too. *20 and 24 yrs served by them*

God Bless America!

barb02 11-11-2008 07:46 PM

Hi! Well I had a message on my voice mail at school rescheduling my appointment for tomorrow. I don't know why I decided to check it a little while ago; I never check it in the evening. I don't know why they just called me there. They do have my home number too. They seem to think that patients do not have jobs or lives and we can just come whenever they command. So I had to cancel a hair appointment (can't get in now until Dec 3rd -- grrr -- I am going to have poofy hair with grey roots), and I have one and 15 minutes hour to get there after my classes ( it takes a little over an hour) and then I need to get back right away as the department has a meeting scheduled with our deans at 4:00. They only schedule these about every two years or so it would not look good if I miss it.

I am glad I am getting in so quickly, and kind of nervous about it. Now I am thinking that they would not have fit me in so quickly if my MRI did not show any new lesions. I know; I worry too much about things I cannot really control.

Hope everyone is having a good night. I am off to grade some more tests. I can't wait until Thanksgiving break. We get a week off. Maybe I will actually clean my house then.:OuttaHere:

SandyC 11-11-2008 07:58 PM

Uh Oh, Nik fell asleep several hours ago and hasn't been up since. He said dinner smelled good but he didn't want to eat yet. :(

I hope it's just because he's bored and not the mono getting worse.

oh, Sarah... I've been thinking about what you wrote all day...

my heart aches for you, because I remember that phase (well, it's mercifully fogy, but still...)

with my 3, and DBF's teenaged-DSD added, and working fulltime, and doing carpool three days a week, cooking, cleaning, and trying frantically to maintain the house in the same shape my mom taught me... it was supremely exhausting.

now that I look back, I realize, that although my mom had 6 kids, she didn't work outside the home, and even WITHOUT having MS, I would never have the time or energy to do things "properly"

but I sure tried.

and when I couldn't, I always felt so guilty... but that never helped, just made me feel worse...

I guess what I wanted to share with you is... you need to take care of yourself FIRST... your kids need you to eat well, and get better.

and don't feel guilty about what you couldn't get done, as long as the kids feel loved, and you feel serene and happy.

yoga or walking, those may help, as long s you go EASY, and don't try to do too much, or tire yourself out.

maybe there's some fitness thing you can do WITH the kids?

I found I could do a lot more snuggles and story reading, and had more energy and serenity for my kids after I went out on full disability.

laying in bed, I tied shoes, scrubbed faces, combed and braided hair, and shared hugs and boardgames.

things got very very financially tight, but somehow we managed.

Sarah, I just wish there was a way you could take a break from work for a while, so you could rest, and recover... I worry about you honey, and pray for you every day.

 :grouphug:

DM 11-11-2008 08:13 PM

As Mother's, it's our job to worry, Sandy~ I'll bet Nik is just totally exhausted from the Mono. It kicks bu++. Let us know how he's doing.

Good luck tomorrow Barb. I hope the results are in your favor.

weegot5kiz 11-12-2008 01:00 AM

hi ho neighbors been up21.5 hours joy joy and only have to be up at 5 am again coolieos, hope yall are sleeping well

chat at ya in the morn

peace

CayoKay 11-12-2008 07:06 AM

I'm thinking, "Why do I have to be awake this early?"

(whoops, wrong thread!)

kitty woke me with serious importunings, indicating her desire for FOOD, at 5 am.

she does this by sitting on my pillow, and lightly lashing my face with her furry tail.

***lash... slide... tickle... LASH... slide... tickle*** rinse and repeat...

if that doesn't work, she pats my eyelids gently with her paws.

(don't worry, she's smart enough to keep her claws retracted)

she's also smart enough to know that Daddy feeds her, not me, and on top of that, she's smart enough to know that if I get up, the missing warmth from the bed will eventually wake up Daddy.

well, it didn't work today, and she's now STANDING on Daddy's HAID, going MRAOW, MRAOW, MRAOW... and pacing the length of his body.

amazing that all that noise and walking on top of Pop ain't doin' the trick!

okay, now she just came to my desk, hopped in my lap, and *ordered* me to wake up Mr. Slug-a-bed, or else!

:D

time to go chop cabbage and lettuce and carrots and celery and chaya and callalou. (I always make extra-sure I'm wide awake before heading to the chopping board, because weak numb hands doesn't GO well with knives...)

okay, NOW kitty is attempting to claw out Daddy's hair-tie... (yeah, he's a hippie with a ponytail, lol!) and she's getting majorly peeved.

:D

Kitty 11-12-2008 07:16 AM

Cats are so smart, aren't they, Kay?

Mine knows that if he goes into my bathroom and rattles the shower door that will wake me up. If I try to ignore it he'll jump up on the dresser and slowly push anything up there off onto the floor. If that doesn't work then he gets in bed with me and taps his little cold, wet nose on my face or my arm if it's outside the covers. He's a smart little thing.

Gracie (the mini-hippo) just waits in the kitchen (closer to the food) and lets him do all the work!! :D
