Just got a call from Nik, my youngest. He has mono and has to miss a week of school. He'll probably come home. Poor thing, I was telling him he probably just had a bad case of the flu.

Postal employees are feds, but some of us are under the FERS (Federal Employees Retirement System) and are eligible for Social Security benefits also, and some of us (me) are under the CSRS (Civial Service Retirement System) and are NOT also eligible for Social Security benefits.

The whole thing is so complicated, I get dizzy just looking at the pile of papers. Anyone who doesn't already feel sympathy for Frank should do so now.

I have applied for Disability Retirement through CSRS. I don't have any communication with Social Security all, except to deposit Bob's check after he signs it.

He asked if he could stay in his dorm room and his hall director said go home. He's more worried about missing school and tests and I told him they will let him make it up. He said he hasn't felt the fatigue part. Then he asked me if I wanted him to stop and get soup? I told him no.

Doesn't every parent have chicken noodle soup in their cabinets for such emergencies? :D

Jim will be Ok since he's had mono. Me? I don't know since I was never tested but I did have "walking pneumonia" and "swine flu" as a child. Think I am safe?

My granddaughter is also recovering from that infamous freshman disease. We were told that adults rarely "catch" it from teens, since almost all of us have the Epstein-Barr (sp?) virus kicking around our bloodstreams somewhere from our past and are immune.

That's what I read so I am sure I'll be OK. I also read since Jim had it he could have passed it to me even if he didn't have symptoms because it remains in your system forever.

Nik said he feels like he has a STD and has to call the girls he's kissed in the past 4-6 weeks. :p

Ughh....I had mono when I was 18. It really knocked me for a loop. I was extremely tired. I'd sleep 20 out of 24 hours. It took me about 6 months to finally feel normal again. Apparently I had an extreme case of it.

I hope Nik gets better soon. Hopefully he has a mild case.
