I hope you wrote in your application all about it. Atvan is addicting right? I've heard about Atvan but have never been prescribed it, so I have no idea what it is. I have tried prednisone though and about an day after I start taking it my roommate starts calling me Ms. Wiggens. I think I know how you feel.

The side effects of ALL steroids can be tough, but they are preferable to DEATH that occurs without their use in the case of respiratory distress.

Similar to......there is a risk of death with the anesthesia during any surgery. Was Michael Jackson stupid to take anesthesia to get a good night's sleep ? Yup ! If I need an angioplasty because I am having a heart attack, I'm not going to worry about the risk of anesthesia.

If your daughter needs steroids to breathe because of an exacerbation of CF, she NEEDS them......there really isn't any alternative.

That's the difference your sick, it's these kids that have nothing wrong and take all kinds of prescription meds. Michael Jackson was insane to take something that's meant for surgery to sleep. The doctor that gave it to him was just as crazy. Did you hear his defense MJ committed suicide, he woke up while doc was in the bathroom and somehow used up the rest of the propofol that was in the bottle.

Right, I understand. But I was looking to see if there are any options. Now she has cultured something in her lungs and the medicine to get rid of it costs $4,3000. Can you believe that. This is just 1 of the meds the other 1 is high as well. We got the maufactureer to chop it down to $500 for us. My wife's insurance would not pay. It is frustrating sometimes. I hope Mr. Obama's health care plan helps.

Hoosier, that's just awful ! CF is tough enough, but, ugh, adding crazy prices for drugs. Is it considered an experimental drug ? Why wasn't it covered ?

I understand the whole tiered drug pricing thing, and frankly I agree that insurance should cover generics first, but in this case it doesn't sound like there would be a cheaper alternative. If the poor kid can't clear her secretions, any med should be covered with a doctors note of medical necessity. That's just bs !

How is she doing ?

To be honest with you, she doesn't even know it. she is 10 and she coughs a little bit more than normal. She evens plays softball rides her bike .etc. But it will get worse if we do not get the medicine. The insurance covered 1 med it is called Tobi. But the second 1 called Pulmozyme is too expensive. they are charging us $500 instead of the $4300 it could of cost. All it is is tiny tubes that she takes as breathing treatments. There is no generic yet. I understand big pharma making a profit on their medicines but this is just crazy. Anyway she will do 2 different inhaled medicines along with Cipro starting hopefully Wednesday when we get all of the meds in. Thanks for the concern. She is such an amazing kid.

Wow, sounds like she is very high functioning......Good for her !

The prognosis is better now than it ever has been.....and I'm praying the newer drugs will have LONG term effects. We need a cure for CF
