Melody, I was estranged from my oldest son for 10 years... our stories are similar, however I have never been asked 'what the hell happened to your son'.... I would be very taken aback and, like you, would find it difficult to find a quick response to 'put them in their place' ..... I know that inside yourself, you are rising above it all, Melody - and doing what is best and healthiest for YOU... That's what I'm doing... its the biggest struggle, but I'm doing it ... baby step by baby step.... ! One thing that is different between us, Melody, is that I do talk about my son - as often opportunities arise where I can discuss Derek with others who have gone through the same experience. It helps me understand... and I have spent many years wondering ... why... how... And as I learn to accept "it is what it is"... I am, like you, more and more ready to take care of me. Addy |

To those busy bodies who ask insensitive questions about your son simply reply WHY DO YOU ASK? That should shut them up.

"Now why on earth would you ask me a question like that". It's supposed to stop them in their tracks. Addy: Oh, I discuss my son on the internet with others who have gone through EXACTLY what I have gone through. I don't have friends or family who ask me about him though. They all just went away quietly. It got too uncomfortable so they just gave up. I found this out because I asked one of my cousins why no one has ever asked me about how my son is doing (and this conversation was 8 years ago) and they said "well, we don't know what to say so we don't say anything". Believe me, many people have walked away from me because of this. But I had to cope so I coped. I found sprouting to be the best therapy for my brain and for my body. It's quite soothing and restorative. That's why I do it. And it's cheap and fun lol Melody
