Default I got my new desk.

They finally finished building my new built-in desk/bookcase.

I'm a happy camper. The desk is pretty, my room feels ginormous now compared to what it was like before... That'll help my claustrophobia.

The big plus side on getting this desk was that I had to clean the place up to be able to have it built. I had quite a dust farm going. I didnt have dust bunnies, I had Dust Godzilla's roaming around...they were reproducing like bunnies tho. I think a lot of it was hair from my dog that died in 2006.

The dog hair must have interbred with the dust to create the Dust Godzilla's. No wonder they were so scary...they were half big dog.

I'm posting two pictures. One is the "before" picture. The other one is the "after" picture. The "before" picture is pretty scary.

I cant believe I actually let my room and my computers get that bad. I wasnt even using the computer on the right for about the past year and a half because of how utterly cluttered that desk had gotten.

Very nice, Erin! Have fun organizing and decorating. The mess is why I was always glad we moved every 3 or 4 years. It helped clear out the excess. We have been in this house 6 years and it is time for a major cleaning.

I think this is going to be easy to keep clean...at least the desktop. I've got stuff strewn all over it right now, and it's bugging me. I like the way it looks when it's clean. So, no problem there with keeping the dust piles down.

I already told our cleaning lady that she's allowed to clean my desk. Just dont touch the computers.

Now I want a new computer. My big Gateway computer is just huge looking on the desk, and it's LOUD. I'm just trying to get the updates on the computer done, and get the antivirus updated, then I'm going to turn it off.

I might rearrange the top of the desk tomorrow. I have two spaces where I can put the Gateway under the desk in it's own little cabinet. (well, only one has a hole to access it with power cords and cables right now) I might shove the Gateway in the cubby so that I can have the look of an uncluttered desktop.

Plus the stupid thing is SO LOUD!!! It's irritating me. I got used to the relative quiet of my iMac. I'm hoping that the noise from the Gateway isnt it going thru the death throes of a crashing hard drive. I think it's just dirty inside and needs a massive de-dusting. (I'm afraid to open it, and dont know how. waiting for boyfriend to come and dust it for me. I'm paying him hazard pay to do it)

I think my next computer will be a Mac Mini. Small, wont clutter up my desk. I can carry it in my purse to take it to the Genius Bar at the Apple store for upgrades and repair.

I am really impressed with myself that I managed to get the Gateway hooked up to the WiFi without having to call my boyfriend to ask him how to do it. I cant believe I remembered how to do it. The MS had been sucking my ability to follow simple directions right out of my head lately. Surprising that I figured it out.

Beautiful desk/cabinets...keep the pic of it new and sparkly in sight...an incentive to keep it cleaned up... I should take pics of my house when I have it cleaned...the clutter drives me mad...

Love the desk!
LOL, the old Gateway - we just broke ours down about a year ago. RIP Bessie! It was a work horse though.

This might help you - Click Free. I got ALL the stuff off my pcs - and they are both 4-5 yrs old - in a couple hours just plugging it in. Could put it on a new one in about the same time. So easy, sorts files puts them in the right place and all that, no duplicates. Mine will hold up to 20 pcs like a giant flash drive.

NICE!!! I wanna see a picture of it, after you fill it all up..and then another one, after you've used it for a couple of months.

I'm still in the process of arranging it...and rearranging things...and re-rearranging things.

Once they come cut some air holes in the two cabinets that were built to fit a computer tower, I'm going to put my Gateway in one of those cabinets. I didnt realize just how huge my Gateway is. It takes up more than it's fair share of space on the desktop.

If I hide it in one of those cabinets, then I will definitly have the space for my sewing machine when I want to use that on the desk.

I've been putting some books in the shelves, but I dont want to get too much stuff in there yet till I get my tv set up. Not exactly sure where to put my components for the tv yet.

I feel so short next to this thing. I can reach the third shelf, but anything higher up I'm going to have to have a ladder. So, that's where I'll be putting books that I probably wont need too often.

I hope I can keep this thing looking neat, and that it wont end up looking like the "before" picture of my old desks. I dont want my desk ever looking that bad. I think because this looks so nice, I'll be more inclined to keep it looking good and wont let it get that bad again.

It's already got me trying to clean out the rest of my room. I have a pedestal bed, with drawers underneath to keep things in...instead of having normal stuff like socks and sweaters, those drawers are filled with assorted bits of junk. I'm going thru those today, cleaning things out and actually getting clothes put away, rather than keeping a herd of laundry baskets in the corner, juggling dirty stuff and clean stuff between the baskets.

At least my room feels cleaner, and neater...even tho I've got to get new carpeting (or at least get the current stuff re-stretched and tacked down again) and the whole room really needs a couple of coats of paint. Plus the walls have some damage from my old dog, and from being a construction zone for a few weeks. Have to get all that fixed before the room looks really good.

I'm just glad to have a grown-up, adult desk, and storage. I've been feeling overwhelmed with all my junk floating around the basement, and the whole place was feeling like a big mess...and having MS doesnt really inspire me to want to clean a lot. Anything to make things easier for me is exciting.

Plus, if I ever get married and move out, my parents will have one heck of a nice sitting room down here if there isnt a huge bed taking up space. They could put shelves on the wall and turn the room into a library. If I ever inherit the house, that's probably what I'd end up doing to this room. Bookcases and comfy chairs to read in. (I dont expect to inherit the house...it'll probably get sold to finance taking care of my parents when they get older)
