Default TILT, second edition

Things I Love Thursday

When in doubt, it is always recommended to err on the side of positive thinking. When I was little, I watched Peter Pan (who was played by a petite blond woman in the production) and when she asked the audience to think happy thoughts to revive Tinkerbell, I was one of the children who loved that idea. I knew it was a television movie, it was the idea that charmed my childhood.

We adopted a new kitten into our house. Meko. She is a Siamese. She was quarantined until checked by the vet and my two shelter cats welcomed her with not one hiss or incident. Meko loves DH and he feels the same way. It is so endearing to have him interrupt my attention elsewhere and direct it to Meko sleeping sweetly inside his robe, looking like a Joey inside a kangaroo pouch.

DD will be home soon and she is planning to make dinner for us while DH is gone at work for the day. She has a health recipe magazine and her cooking tastes good and the meals are good for me.

DS called last night very excited. As so many of you know, he is...well...a different drummer. I was thinking back to when he was just a baby and learning to talk. His first word was "dut." It was a word, I just did not know what it meant. He would be so frustrated to the point of tears saying "dut." I told him I knew he was talking but I did not know what "dut" meant. One day when I was giving him apple juice in his sippy cup, he looked me right into the eyes, held the cup and said, "dut." It was a moment of great clarity for me. A moment in time I will never forget.

Anyway, back away from my tangent! He called last night very excited. The record for viewing his blog in one day was 2,300. He wrote an article and it was picked up by a few other internet sites, even "The Guardian" in the UK. He had 20,000 hits in ONE DAY. I don't pretend to understand just what impact that makes but I know it was a really good thing from the sound of his voice.

So, here is the challenge. I understand a lot of negative happens but TILT is for a mental exercise of positive thought. Did something happen to you that was good this week? If you share it, you might bring a smile into someone else's life. It certainly makes a difference in mine when I think of all the times in my life when I had a smile on my face.

It can just be sitting in the sun, seeing a bird, a beautiful sunset. Can you TILT?

Plus one more thing...Sally is a nudge.

Yes, something good did happen this week!

I went out to get the mail in and Rick, my neighbor in the cul de sac that has ALS, was riding up and down the street in his power chair. His assistant was with him, too.

I have such a hard time understanding Rick when he talks. I feel so bad because he tries so hard and I sort of have to guess at what he's saying to me.

Well, his assistant Dave asked how I was and I replied that I was fine. I asked him how he was and then I asked Rick how he was.

I could tell he was really trying hard to speak clearly and what he said I understood! It wasn't crystal clear but I did understand him. He said "Life's good". Two simple little words but he managed to say them to me and I nearly cried. Here's a man who, just five short years ago, was mowing his own lawn. Driving his classic Mustang and going to Brave's baseball games. Now the outing of the day is riding up and down the street in his power chair. But, to him, life's still good. I could learn a lesson from this dear man.

And this is exactly what I mean. Now something good has happened to me. Thanks Kelly and Cyn.

I honestly couldn't think, on Thursday, if anything good had happened to me the past week or not. I looked through my "diary"--big mistake. All I saw were things like: both long-haired cats had cat box/scissors problems (yuck); neighbor's dogs pooped by our garage door again; stupid Daylight Saving Time; want to go to church and can't; exhausted from grocery shopping....you get the drift.

But it's a couple of days later and I'm able to see (if not literally a silver lining) but at least the flowers hiding among the weeds.

For example:

The neighbor with the undisciplined dogs called and offered us a nice lake trout her son had caught (we declined, but it was nice of her to offer).

My pastor told me he missed my "quick wit and analytical mind". That made me feel good. He could have said "smart mouth and critical spirit".

The day we had gone shopping, a friend said, "Oh that's right, it's Wednesday--geezer day at the village store." I thought, "Rats, I didn't ask for the senior discount!" But I looked at my receipt, and they gave it to us anyway. Hey, 5 bucks is 5 bucks, and we're too old to be insulted by getting an automatic geezer discount.

On a day that I was feeling that I have precious little left to offer, someone said, "I always laugh or at least smile when I read your emails." I really needed to hear that on that day.

And last (but not least) asparagus was on sale for $1.99 a pound. I never buy it when it's not on sale, so I treated myself. It's especially tasty this time, and a perfect compliment to my scrambled (fresh) eggs.

There. There are some things I love.

Here’s my tilt: I am home! Hubby and I went out west on a ski vacation (ski bunny vacation for me) for six weeks, and I am so glad to be home I can’t tell you. Being on a road trip like that is very hard for me. When we are away from home I don’t have what I need to exercise properly, and multiple driving days in a row gets really painful for me.

But I am home now and I am loving it. I can hardly wait to get out into the back yard and listen to the birds, and watch the grass grow, and get my daily dose of vitamin D. Life is good.

Thanks for sharing TILT's, I hope more people look at the positive energy of their lives.

This week included a long drive from Phoenix to Palm Springs to try to help DH's parents who are having multiple medical issues. DH's brother/wife also joined us. DH had prepared a casserole for the evening dinner and we brought our Vitamix to make drinks for BIL who has a serious neurological disease that effects his jaw making it difficult to eat or speak.

Dinner and the Vitamix were a huge success, everyone appreciated DH's kitchen skills.

DH and I have a road game we have played ever since we started taking long road trips. It is an alphabet sign game. We look for an "a" on a sign and then progress to a "b" until we have seen a word for each letter and we win! The hardest letters are "q" and "z." Since "x" is not a letter that begins anything, we play with it being the second letter as in "exit."

Sharp eyed DH loves the game and it takes a bit of the boredom out of a long drive.

Another positive thing that happened this week is that DS was approved for a SECOND application at the Apple Store. The first was a way to track books read and this one is for movies. Most apps are free but his cost a nominal fee of $1. I feel like he is a tech rock star!

Then a GREAT thing happened with the new kitten addition. She discovered the cat door leading to the garage where the litter box is kept. It meant the small litter box kept in our bedroom was NOT USED. No stinky presents to clean up! The other two cats had been discouraged from using the bedroom box, that was a challenge but we did not have to gradually move the bedroom box out of the bedroom, into the hallway and so forth. Meko just figured it out, like magic!

Those were the good of the week. Bad things happen but Things I Love Thursday is for the rose colored lens of life.
