My sister volunteers for the Humane Society of the US, who was involved in that project. She went to FL and worked for about 10 days in some really heatbreaking conditions but with great personal reward.

As I have said before, I would love any "thanks" to be put into action. It is easy to admire the good things OTHER people do. Telling me I am wonderful and thank you is not why I started this thread.

It is just as easy to actually do something.

Be the person that does something TODAY. I would love to hear how action today made a better today.

If you cannot get out of the house without help (like me, I am a shut-in), call a neighbor or family and ask them to stop by the grocery store to pick up a can of cat or dog food when he/she is shopping. Tell them you will pay them the dollar or so when it is dropped off. I would bet good money that the person will buy a can, maybe add a can of their own. He/she may even offer to drop it off at a local vet or a shelter.

Then thank yourself like I have thanked myself. It is so easy to do.

I swear you missed your calling in the marketing industry!!! Another great idea and also a way of empowering someone who might feel unable to help based on their physical condition.

One thing I have noticed here, compared to a cat message board I have belonged to for years, is that requests for fundraising even for MS stuff are often unanswered. I'm sure much of it is because some of us are on limited incomes but there are usually other ways to help. Your ideas of donating old towels is a perfect example and organizing a fundraiser like you did could be done from home and wouldn't necessarily even require any money from the organizer.

Despite how cynical I tend to be about this lifetime in general I believe giving back is so important and I do feel good about myself for the things I have done to help others, especially my beloved critters.

There's lots of ways to help. If I wasn't limited by my MS I'd have never found them.

We have an organization here called Planned Pethood. They offer low cost spay and neuter to everyone......but those of us who take care of feral cats can get a break on the cost - and I even got a few neuters done free because I got a "volume" discount! All I had to do was ask and reach out for help in getting these precious creatures there. I met one of my bestest friends by simply asking for help with this.

Caring for feral cats is my passion (along with my own indoor spoiled kitties) and the ones I care for are nearly tame now. They know who feeds them!

I can't do some of the things others do but I know without a doubt this is what I'm supposed to be doing.

P.S. The good Lord knows I can't work with kitties "in person" at a shelter because I'd have them all in my house before the days end. So......I do what I can from home.

As DH says "Walk the walk, don't just don't talk the talk" Kitty, you're a walker.

Nobody need leave the house. Shelters may get better prices on bulk purchases from a provider. Sending a check (amount doesn't matter - Even liitles add up to a lot) is so easy.

If feeding animals is not your thing, there are a ton of other things (sadly).

@Kitty. I have you to thank when I posted a thread "What price for love" and you moved it to the MS section.

@Jules. You will always have a special place in my own life for buying a picture of your dog from the artist Jillian. It helped defer his vet costs. Of all the internet people I have met over the years, you are a shining example of the simplicity of actually doing something.

@Kicker. You are also an inspiration in that you put action into your life and joining me in also creating a success.

@myself. I hope to keep pushing and prodding and trying to create action in a positive manner. To those joining in helping (yay for compassion to feral cats and all living things), pass it forward. Personal reason to be a force of action.

By this experience alone, my "at rest" expression has been a smile. I was rollating in the hallway of my house and DH saw me and commented. It is an ultimate reward to do something good. Each day becomes each month, then year then lifetime. And maybe in another's lifetime as well.

Individually, they're all sort of small things......but together they all work together for good! Where have I read that before?

My thanks to you, Aarcyn, was not only for doing what you did, but for bringing such action to the public eye. I could have typed out this explanation for saying "thank you" so you would better understand but did not think of it at that moment.

I have been thinking about this thread since I first read it. Years ago I fed my animals Purina products. On each package was a 'weight circle' that could be turned in for discounts on food and pet products. I gave them to the Humane Society where I lived in Mississippi, which is a nasty little place with a job way bigger than their accommodations. I went to many fundraisers.

Maybe this sounds like an empty promise but you've prompted me to want to do something/anything for my local shelter even though I'm gun-shy of volunteering my time to such charity organizations. That's why I thanked you.
