Ive been struggling with my weight for a few years now. As a kid, I was always anorexic looking. Couldnt gain weight no matter how hard I tried. Well, turning 35 that all changed. I gained like 50+ pounds which put me in the overweight category but not obese, (I was always underweight) and for years I havent been able to lose them. When my last flare hit, and my mobility stopped, I gained more. Well, for the past few months Ive been dieting and to my great pleasure and joy, I have lost 40 pounds!!! I am only 8 small pounds away from being at my ideal weight for my height!! I cant jump for joy in person, so, I'll do it here

Excellent KittyLady,
I am so happy for you and your success. Losing weight is not easy; especially if exercising ability is limited. Please share what sort of diet you went on and what the maintenance program looks like. My weight is in the ideal range but I'm sure that others would be really interested in knowing how you did it. 40 pounds is a lot...that's equal to 4 gallon jugs of water ![]() Well done!! With love, Erika |

Good for you! I'd jump up and down for you if I could! Wait...there, I just bounced in my chair a little!
Anyone who has never been more than a few pounds overweight has no concept of how much it "bites" to be obese; how hard and discouraging it is to have 40-50-60 or more pounds to lose; and how the weight can sneak up on you. People who have never been there say, "How could you have let yourself gain XX pounds in the first place?" Well, you don't gain them all in the FIRST place, you gain them one at a time, and you get used to them one at a time. Weight has been a war for me my entire adult life. From being just a few pounds overweight, I was at one point in my thirties up to over 250# (I was 5'2"). I got down to 140 in my 40's, back up to 220, down to 180, then in 2003-2004 I self-diagnosed my fatigue and other problems to being obese, and got down to the lowest in my adult life: 126! But I was still fatigued and wobbly--my friend said, "of course! you lost too much weight too fast!" So I let myself gain 5, then 10 pounds. Found out I had MS. Gained another 10. Lost some mobility, gained another 10. First thing you know... For a long time, I just flat didn't care. I can still enjoy food, and I will! Well, a few weeks ago two things hit me: I'm going to lose what mobility I still have and end up in a nursing home; and I'm going to fall and the EMT's are going to call our local volunteer fire department (I know them personally) for a (shudder) lift assist. ![]() I've lost 14 pounds in the last 10 weeks. I obviously know HOW to lose weight, having done it many times. When I feel like eating half a Pepperidge Farm cake, I picture all my neighbors listening to the scanner and hearing, "We need a lift assist at...." No thanks. SORRY to hog your thread, KittyLady, but I'll be right there with you, cheering and praying, as you lose those last 8 pounds. Hooray for you !!! ![]()

Truly thanks for sharing the struggle of what it is like to have weight issues. I agree that those who have not had the experience find it difficult to relate.
An apt question in return to those who make comments like "How did you let yourself gain all that weight?" might be, how did you let yourself become so hard hearted and judgmental? I have been on both sides of the fence and was obese in my youth (250lbs), lost the weight through diet and exercise, then was diagnoses with regional enteritis. That left me below the ideal weight and for a while I couldn't gain it because eating made the enteritis worse. Both extremes are the cause of great suffering; as is the struggle to overcome them. KittyLady, B2Y and all those who are living with weight issues and taking them on, you are heros in my view. May your intentions be realized. With love, Erika |

Well, alot of people dont like the way I did it, but it works! I took the HCG drops. I was still able to take all my MS meds and shots. The only difference is that with meds, you lose weight slower. This was perfect for me because I cant exercise, and on this your not allowed to exercise. I went from 192 pounds in February to 152 pounds this month. Im smaller than I was at my wedding 5 yrs ago. Not everyone likes the idea of this diet, some run from it because of its limited calories, but IMHO, its worth it! It has taught me how to eat healthier and to reallly take notice of all the crap they put in foods out there. We no longer eat processed foods. I do alot of homemade cooking and baking. More fresh veggies, no canned. I actually enjoy cooking now. Also, we no longer drink pop. So much sugar in foods that you really dont need. I have also gone vegetarian to try and help decrease the inflammation in my body. No harm, right?
