Default Y work out

My husband went with me! Since we were supposed to have a heat index of 105 today he said he would just drop me off on his way to the mall he walks at. So I suggested that he get a guest pass for the Y. So that's what we did. First off I told the staff, hunky guy I needed to add another machine to my work out. I ride the bike for my legs and cardio, I use two seperate machines for upper body but the whole middle body has been feeling left out. And I can't believe the amount of stamina the Y has given me. The books are right, exercise does help fatigue. So DH was able to be with me and give some insight to the hunky buff guy as he suggested several machines for me. Maybe he just didn't want to leave me alone with the hunky buff staff guy! So I started this new machine, you sit on it, lock your legs in place and then raise up to get the arms and sort of bend yourself in the middle. I think it's called an ab core or something like that. So when I had finished my regular routine I went over and tried it. I couldn't move it at all. So by that time DH was done going around the Y looking bored and lost and ready to go home. So he showed me that all the weights were still on it! There was 75 pounds of weights hooked to it. So I took ALL the weights off. It took me a bit to get the hang of it but I did 2 reps of 10. You can turn the seat to the side and it can work your side muscles also. I had DH do the Eagle row at the weight I do it at and he had a hard time doing it and couldn't believe I was doing it with 30 pounds for 4 reps of 10. So I was glad he went. It showed him what I do every day at they for 90 minutes. I'm not just gabbing with some old women. In fact there isn't a soul in there that I talk to except tell the staff hi and by. Most of the people there are college age guys that are trying to do these huge weights and huffing and puffing. Or there are these young chicks that have these tight little crop pants and tops on with a butt that my husband would die for me to have. So I just silently do my exercises with my 200 pound body, drink a lot of water and leave.

DH said the Y isn't something for him but I'm glad that he tried. Plus I am glad he offered to take me instead of me having to drive. This is the time I LOVE my remote start but if he isn't gone to the mall I have to take the car that doesn't have the remote start.

You should join! I just rejoined my local gym because I get a work discount. I haven't gone yet but when school is out I'll go at least three times a week to get back in shape.

Ewizabeth, I did join. I'm trying to get DH to join with me. But I don't really think it's his thing. But it would be a thing we could do together. He likes just plain walking and he can do that for free. I have to have the motivation of knowing I have to be at the Y at least 6 days a week and feeling the burn in my arms and legs and then keeping on. It's covered under y insurance so I woulod be silly not to do it. I could make myself get up earlier in the morning and take advantage of the aquatics classes but I'm to lazy to get up that early. So I go every afternoon and work out for about 90 minutes. Plus the guys are better looking than at the old mall where are there is now is senior offices and geriatric related MD offices.

I admire that you keep at it! I'm a lazy one!
Its great that you "feel the burn".....important to keep that muscle tone and strength.

Kudos to you.....if I were there, I would go with you.....you could keep me motivated!...........and I would drive

Don't worry about all the hotties at the gym.....well at least not the female ones...

doydie,

I am hoping you can talk your husband into working out with you.

I am not very good at going someplace to workout and prefer the privacy of my own home.

Last year after several months of keeping my thoughts to myself while I weighed the pros and cons I finally told my husband I wanted to get a weight machine. I didn't know anything about weight machines but I explained to both my husband and son what I wanted...they knew what I needed/wanted.

In October 2012 we bought a 4 station weight machine ---- it's awesome! I absolutely love it!

It has two sets of weights --- one set for 2 stations and the other set of weights for the other 2 stations. All I have to do is pull a pin and put the pin back in for the amount of weight I want.

My husband and I workout together. I use two of the stations and he uses the other 2 stations. We switch stations on different days.

Working out together has kept both of motivated.

If your husband won't work out with you, you keep going anyway

Thanks Snoopy, it's his loss. It would only be $16/month. But he doesn't like 'organized activities' and that's what he sees an exercise regime is. If I got my butt in gear I could also go to the aquatics classes in the morning with my sister. But maybe that will come in time. I do have to admit I took today off and then towards the end of the evening I realized that with the activities I have this weekend I don't know if I will be able to go. OOPS! When my Mom was alive she lived in this really nice and very old retirement home. It was small, 50 apartments and had a wonderful activities director. Several times a year they would have these musical activites that the residents would lip sync to music and they would be dressed for the song. One of the ones they have every year is Grand Ol Opry. So that's tomorrow. The ladie's grand daughter would always help her. Mom saw her growing from a 10 year old to a young lady and she always loved Mom. So she is singing 2 songs tomorrow and dedicating them to Mom. So of course my sis and I have to go. They will serve refreshments. I'm not sure if one of my granola bars would be better to take instead of the cakes they have.

Then Sunday is Fathers Day. Boy is it an emotional weekend. For both Mothers and Fathers day I can't think of one but the both of them together. They were a matched set, a match made in heaven, soul mates. So we will be having a lasagna meal at my sisters house on Sunday. I need to bring my own desert there also. I have sworn off bread so that won't bother me.
